We'll yesterday my clutch finally died (I think) when I first got in my car I noticed reduced pedal pressure, it only had resistance after being pushed in more than half way. I turned it on and it started fine, now since the pressure was weird also was the engaging point of the clutch I guess. Relative from where the pedal was now, it engaged after only realizing it very little, so the drive was kind of jerky.

When I went across an intersection I was shifting to third and it grinded, it didn't want to go into gear, I tried it one moe time and it went right in. As i was about to parallel park infront of my house, I positioned my car, stoped, was about to put it in reverse AND IT DIDNT GO IN! I freaked out, tried put in it back in first to go forward make a turn and try parallel parking in one shot (the space was pretty large) BUT IT DIDNT WANT TO GO INTO FIRST EITHER! Now i was REALLY scared, it wouldnt go into any gear.

I turned the car off, (with the hazards on) in the middle of the street, to see if that helped at all for any reason. I could "put" the shifter into any gear with the car OFF, so I started the car in 1st gear with the clutch pressed in, it started but it bucked a bit, BUT IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME OUT OF GEAR! So now I thought, damn, I guess I could drive around slowly in first gear and park, but after a couple pumps of the pedal it finally let me out of 1st and into reverse. I finished parking and decided not to worry about it for now, and walk to the trolley the nest morning (today). Its my finals week so i dont need any extra pressure.

So from all the info I've given you, does any one have definite diagnostics? Im hoping its just either the slave or master cylinder. There is no leaking on the carpet under the pedal. I did not check the master. And my clutch is 158,000 miles old (I think). So any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :thumbsup

:) step 1, open hood.
step 2, look at fluid reservoir, open if necessary

is there any fluid?
yes, it's full- bleed system.
yes, it's low- top off and bleed system. check for leaks
no- fill, bleed and check for leaks in the lines and at the cylinders

is the fluid darker than light gold?
yes- flush the systam and bleed it
no, I just changed it recently- what did you use?

EDIT: good technique to learn if your clutch does go out is rev matching your shifts, if you can time it right you don't need the clutch except for when you stop, and even then there is neutral. that's how i got the porsche home when the clutch cable snapped

Yea...I'll give it a look this weekend, like I said im having finals, and its not the funnest time for me right now. Im just glad i was able to get it home.

Ronin's stuff, all cool. But your first step 1 may be sticking your head by the pedals (inside your car), pull back the carpet and see if you've got a wet spot there. Then go to the engine bay and do the same on that side (though less likely to see). This will not absolutely rule out your master, but if it is wet, it will rule it "in" :thumbsup

Taking a dump on you again? I remember we replaced and bleed the system that one day, guess it didn't work. =/

i had the same problem, turned out to be the washers on the banjo fitting on the slave cylinder were leaking, 1$ fix
