I posted a question last week that I thinik got lumped together, so let me try again. I have a transmission that makes a horrible noise while the cluth pedal is not pushed to the floor. Once the clutch pedal is pushed in the noise goes away. Is it the TOB?

Probably... is it a problem? probably not...

The last 2 transmissions I've had (factory rebuilt) have made this noise, w/ 3 different clutch setups.

Made the noise with a CM Stage I / Findanza Flywheel (non-modular), CM TOB

Made the noise with a brand new OEM clutch setup, brand new OEM TOB.

Makes the noise with my CM Stage 3 Modular, another new CM TOB.

I do believe it's the TOB rattling when pressure isn't against it (really loud when engine braking). I also know the slave cylinder's piston can unscrew for an adjustment, would anyone like to try???

Interesting, mine is making the same sound right now too. Im going home this weekend and taking this transaxle off and i have a stock clutch and new OEM throw-out bearing waiting to go in. So i guess i will investagate it and post up what i find. Oh and i have a POS Spec 2+ (never buy spec).

Try adjusting your slave cylinder before tearing the tranny out.

This is a possibility so i will check it out then.

Let me know what you come up with. When you say slave clynder are you talking about the master slave clynder for the cluthch the sits at the bottom front of the tranny?

The slave cylinder is the one that sits at the tranny. The piston is adjustable (unscrew to tighten TOB) acording to what I've read in the FSM.

Well it turn out that it was a broken flex-plate I'm amazed that it lasted how long it did i actually made it back home and pulled the transmission off and the TOB was good but the flex-plate had completely broken all around the inside ring of bolts to the crankshaft. So i picked up a new one and put it on and started driving back and then i blew the head gasket (car must not like 25psi) so looks like I'm gonna tear it down again. Oh does anyone know of a better/stronger design of the flex-plate and modular clutch setup that's available??
