ok so this saturday my buddy is driving the eclipse, and he mentions " the shifting is really soft.. " and im like hmmmm lemme see, and s2nd 4th and reverse were all loose. When you go into 1st it clicks, then 2nd, it clicks but you can go further back, 4th and R are the same. Today I removed my console and checked everything out, and I when i shift to second, I can see the cable going all the way in. Im dead in the water, out of ideas... btw i searched for this, and found nothing similar.

You might double check the larger clips that hold the shifter cables to the top of the bell housing. Sounds to me like there is slop in the system. Fortunately, it's a relatively simple set up.

Yank the shifter boot and move the shifter through the motions to see where the slop is happening. It could be bushings on the shifter itself or it could be a cable not properly secured.

like he said, i would just follow the lines all the way back and find out what is making this happen. Have your buddy sit in the car and shift and just watch to see what happens.... sorry if thats not very helpful.

The same thing happened to me. Do u miss second on power shifts?

Pop your hood and look at the shifter cable that is further back. Have somebody put it in fourth as far back as possible. When this happened to me the shifter cable housing came apart and it wouldn't go into gear.

Just to reiterate what others are saying; it sounds like there is something slipping in the cable system. Check the horshoe clips and the shifter eyelet bushings first. Again, hopefully you have friends :P and they can shift while you look. If you can't find it within there, then move to the interior and shifter side and check bushings and play in that area.
