I have an 97 eclipse 420a the a/t to m/t coversion was already complete when i bought the car. i have been reading the forms on getting the speedo working.i have allready run the wires from the ecu to the speed sensor. the speedo dint work. then i read that i needed to unhook the tcu. i unhooked the box behind the radio and the car would not start when i hooked it back up the car started. can you please tell me what i am doing wrong.

do you have the manual ecu or the AT ecu?

the sensor on the clutch pedal hooked up? the sensors on the AT shifter?

420A engine right?

You sure the Speedo sensor works?

i not 100% sure if they changed the A/T ecu with the manual but i looked up the part # 05293014AC on www.mitsubishi oem parts.com and this is what it said

i was about to buy one but i run the part # and i figured it was the manual trans ecu.

it is an 420a engine

not sure if the speedo sensor works i was going to try to hook everthing up before i bought one.

i looked at the sensor on the cluth and the wires are pluged up but not sure about the other end of the wires.

i didnt know anything about the sensors on the A/T shifter.
but i am going to look for more info on that.

when you unhook the TCM, that contains the starter relay wire (black with yellow stripe). This circuit or whatever needs to be grounded (via Clutch pedal switch) in order for the car to start. I just finished the swap last night believe it or not, and I would've been finished an hour and a half earliar if I had figured this out quickly.

With the manual ECU installed, and the TCM removed, those black/yellow stripe wires need to be grounded. then the car should start without the TCM being there. I figured I'd just hook them up to the clutch pedal switch and be done with it, but that switch is retarded and the wires just need to be grounded, so I stripped both black/yellow stripe wires, put a solderless connector on them and grounded them on the body of the car (temporary, but it works for now).

As for the speedo sensors, they should wire right up to an existing wire going to the ECU. Do you still have a large loom of wires coming out of your lower ECU connector that leads to a 10 pin plug? This plug would plug into your AT trans, however when whoever did the swap they may have sliced it all off, who knows. Mine is just kinda dangling in the engine bay right now (fixing that tomorrow too, haha)(I'll take pictures tomorrow of the plug if you don't know what I'm talking about), if you look at that harness there should be the wires you need to splice into for your speedo sensor from the trans. I haven't done this yet so I can't be super specific, but follow the instructions in this write-up and let us know how it goes.

I found out that i still have the A/T esc the person before didn't change it out. so i will be ordering one this week. hope fully i will have every thing working next week.
