I know this is probaly a stupid question. But i was driving down the interstate going about 70mph in fifth for about 30 minuites when it just poped out of gear? Then it poped out of gear probaly seven more times over the next 10 miles. After that i drove it another hour without any problems. Do i need to have my trans rebuilt,the fifth gear bad ,or is the shift fork bent. :scratch

5th gear dog teeth are shot, you need a new 5th gear, slider, and dogs.

How much will it cost me to get it fixed. maybee purchase the 3.55 neon fifth gear? while im at it how much does a cheap lsd go for. i figure if its gonna get tore apart to do all it needs to make it right or get a good one from the junk yard. what do you recommend?

You'll have to get a Neon 3.55 tranny, and swap your 2gnt bellhousing to have the 3.55 final drive. BE CAREFUL when you pry the case from the bellhousing, use wood shims or something, you don't want to nick the mating surface with a screwdriver or it won't seal up. I'd hook you up with a spare bell, but I sold my last on to Terry a while back.

You can swap the 5th gear only so you dont lose the 3.94final. I did that on the black eclipse i have so it would have more of a highway gear.

You will need a press to do that. the gear on the outputshaft will not come off without a press.

No idea how much the dealer will charge you for parts. find a neon trans for cheap to use for parts. I might have spare 5th gear parts, i have to look if your interested.

What would be the difference in gearing if i juct swaped ina whole neon trans with my bellhousing.would all of my gears be taller or are they the same?
