5447, Difference between ATF +4 and Dexron/Mercon III? Posted by frank1320, May-20-06 06:21 PM
Some people have said that ATF +4 can be used in our transmissions. On the Dexron/Mercon III bottles it says that it replaces a number of different fluids and one of them is ATF +4. Does that mean that it's safe to use in our transmissions as well? I know that the dealer bottle is what most people recommend but I went to the dealership today and it's 20 bucks per quart.

20 is not bad, most want 30 IF they still carry it.
I say pay the 40 and be done with it. ( you need 2.1 quarts). (

The difference is friction modifiers added to atf +4 that dextron doesnt have.
ATF+4 is only 8.00 a quart. Go to a diff dealer.
