5125, What now?
Posted by joeck76, Feb-10-06 12:42 PM
im not sure if i should post this here but i have a 5 speed tranny and today while driving i noticed it started getting tight shiffting into 2nd and than into 4th 1st 3rd and 5th were normal, as i continued to drive the condition worsened and eventually it got tight in all gears????? its like its tight to shift tight enough to make the shift nob turn from force while im shifting but it doesnt seem like its hard to get in gear, no grinding, clanking or noises of any sort just abnormal tightness?? any idea whats going on, i took my console apart and took off my shifter to see if maybe it needed greasing? nothing there. i believe i might be having tranny issues but not sure, i have zero gear issues just seems like all of a sudden everything tightened up a bit. any ideas? thanks in advance

ok well i decided to go ahead and change the fluid in my transmission. i first checked the fill hole to see if there was enough in there and when i did a bunch poured out, than i just drained the whole thing. the fluid was kinda like a dark gold color and smelled like carrots lol. break a carrot in half and thats exactly what it smelled like, didnt appear to be burnt or anything and i didnt see no signs of metal flakes or foreign particles in the fluid. im gonna replace it with bg syncroshift. hope this fixes my issues.

Look on the top of the tranny where the shift cables connect. It's a shaft going into the tranny. Most likely the bushing that the shaft goes through is dry or the cable is sticking. remove the cable from the tranny and try the shifter to see if it moves freely, this way you'll know weather it's in the tranny or the cable/shifter bushings.

if it the bushings is it easy to replace/fix? i drained all my transmission fluid out and after reading for several hours ive decided to go with the oem mopar fluid but cant get none till satan opens monday mornin. also while i was under there i figured id check everything else out as well i noticed that the axle that goes from the tranny to the driverside wheel (drive axle????) if i grab ahold of it and try to wiggle it i can i get slight play side not in and out just up and down and the play is on the tranny side. is this normal or do i have a bad bearing or something? thanks for all the help and thanks for the reply

If you dont have a seal leaking I would'nt worry about it.
