4555, Trans or clutch problems...Help plz.

I tried searching for an answer to my problem but furthest I could get was may be the TOB wasn't placed right. Heres the issue:

Rebuilt my engine with the howell bottom end and while doing that decided to add a new clutch. I bought a spec 3 clutch which came with a new TOB. I installed everything and torqued the clutch to drive plate using a dab of blue thread locker. Well I just started my car today for the first time and when it started the transmission would make a very loud rattling noise. This noise stayed on even if I pressed the clutch or not. I tried to reverse the car but the car will not shift into any gear. Any suggestions to help on this matter would be gratly appreciated.

I am in the same footsteps as you.
but just not put everything back yet.
I also rebuilding with howell long rod kit.
And also throw in a new Spec III clutch.

I hope you can figure it out! I just hope I won't run into that problem... sorry to hear that. Let us know if you found out what's wrong!

BTW, Did you make sure your clutch slave cylinder is not leaking?
did you make sure your TOB is installed correctly?
and finally, did you check your release fork for any play? maybe it needs adjustment.
check this site out, hope it helps:

Well i read in other posts that it could be a mismounted tob and sure enough when i dropped the trans to check if the tob had come off it did. looks like one of the tabs is missing. i just bought a new oem tob and fork and with the fork came a new fork pivet ball. Now I was lookin at where this ball goes and my question is does the ball go into the fork or does it just sit on the surface where those three metal fingers are? Everytime i tried to mount the tob with the fork it would eventualy fall off so im wondering is it because i didnt stick the ball into the clutch fork passed the metal fingers?

Thanks for your replys.

what's the ball? the thing the fork pivots on? if so, yes it should be clipped on there, not just resting. the fork should not be able to fall out of the assembly in anyways if it's clipped on.

Well have everything installed, mounted the new tob onto the the new fork. Started the car and the trans is still making the noise but not as loud. The thing is that the noise is constant and is there if i press the clutch pedal or not. It did go away for a minute but came back. The clutch is new like i posted before and is a spec 3 clutch. One thing I did remember is that there is this disk that goes in between the clutch and pressure plate that was very loose and would spin inside the clutch. Could it be that spinning around or tumbling? Also by clutch line has a hole and the rubber boot on the slave cylinder has leak. Could a leak have anything to do with this rattling noise?
