3792, what kind of grease to use on clutch master cylinder?
Posted by EazyE, Dec-22-04 03:04 AM
i just got my rebuild kit in for my slave cylinder and my clutch master cylinder. I was reviewing the haynes manuel on installing it and it refers to using grease to lubicate the piston. Is this required? also i should replace the clutch master cylinder gasket correct? sorry for all the questions just want to make sure i do this right. thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

when rebuilding masters whether it's clutch or brake i always use brake fluid to lubricate the piston before install. I wouldnt use grease unless you have some specified for that particular application. Using anything else could contaminate the clutch/brake fluid.

As for the gasket.....what gasket are you referring to? the cylinder body to chassis gasket? that one should not need to be replaced unless damaged, if you got a new one in the kit then sure use it!

okay maybe the brake fluid was what haynes were referring too. the gasket was the one that goes in between the clutch master cylinder to the firewall. alright thanks for the help.
