3328, Leaking Tranny Fluid?

I noticed a dark redish fluid "dripping" off the clutch fork end where the slave cylinder is. How can that much tranny fluid make it through the input shaft bearing?

your slave cylinder is probably shot man. Input shaft bearing?

I don't know what you mean by that. There are a couple 'input shaft bearings'. One, is right there behind that plate on the driver side of the tranny, along with the same sized output shaft bearing. Then, there is an input shaft bearing/plastic seal thing on the bell housing. Then, there is the output shaft bearing in its own race on the bell housing. Are you sure its red? Check your slave cylinder IMO. But as far as tranny fluid leaking thru there, that would be new to me. but im a noobie.

I'll check to see if the clutch resivoir is low at all. The seal I was talking about is the one that is pressed into the bell housing for the input shaft.

I had this happen to my 95 GS. Turns out the Master Cylinder was the culprit. Replaced, all better. Clutch even works like it is suppose to now, way less mushy.

My master cylinder has only 15k miles on it.

How would a bad master cylinder put fluid on the end of the clutch fork?

My master died on 8k....and less than a year. Go figure, and I can drive to.

I still don't see how it would end up on the end of the clutch fork.

I took off the dust boot and felt inside the bellhousing and I felt a *very* thin coat of grease(?) around the inside. Is this normal? (as in just whats slung off the lube'd parts such as the TOB?).

My cluch fluid is still completely filled, definately not that.

since you mentioned slave cylinder, i'm guessing you have a manual.
What type of gear oil are you using? I have yet to use anything that was red in color.

I'm using BG SynchroShift, I think it was red.

Our MTX fluid is not red in color... Unless you are running something different in there.

the newer NV-T350's are using some kind of red fluid(ATF fluid? trans blood?) not exactly sure on it's name though, I can get that later if anyone is interested. the '02 neon tranny I just pulled from the junkyard puked out a buttload of the red shit when I pulled the shafts out of it(wasn't thinking, oops, sorry earth). although, when I changed the fluid in my '96 trans it was certainly not red in color and it stunk like hell

Yeah the proper fluid recommended by the FSM stinks like nothing else and has the consistency similar to thick motor oil (not gear oil).

BG SychroShift is the best, it just costs a lot (better than the OEM recommended).
