Okay here's my problem... When shifting below 5000 rpm's everything is cool, smooth shifting and no complaints. When im driving my car hard or racing and i bring my rpm's to about 6.5 thousand thats when i experience problems. When I launch in first gear and plan to shift at about 6.7 thousand rpm's my gears will just grind and i have to take my foot off the clutch and then reapply it if i want it to go into second. I noticed this only happens when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd. After that I catch all gears? Whats the problem? Would this be a clutch problem or transmission? thanks guys...

A) could be the synchros
B) might get better help in the perf/eng forum subforum for the NVT-350 MT
C) you do know that peak hp is achieved by the engine at 6300rpm right? Revving beyond that is not neccessary.

Consider yourself lucky you could drive a year and never need to wrap it up that high. You've bought yourself some time to save up for repairs! Wo0t!

It's likely the synchros that are giving you trouble. You may want to try swapping out your fluid for some Pennzoil Synchromesh. While it won't eliminate the problem, it does provide for much smoother shifting.

Also, if your car can rev to 6700 that's fine. Mine spools to 7000 without a problem. Where the car makes peak HP isn't the issue, but where the torque curve lies when the gear is shifted, hence the need to shift at or near redline to keep the torque up.

P.S. Capacity is 2.1 quarts on the NVT-350 and you can find Synchromesh at AutoZone or O'Reilly's

try changing the tranny fluid. Try some redline or bg syncroshift. personally I use syncroshift and it makes my tranny shift nicely.

I used to have that problem. First is so short, i was actually just trying to shift into second too fast. Fast enough that I'd get ahead of my foot, or i'd not give the synchronizer enough time to do its job. Try shifting a little slower and if that doesn't reduce the problem, i'd say you've just got a worn second gear stop ring.

im haveing the same thing happing to me it's got new fluid in it did not help if it is the stop ring what can we do to fix that?
