I did a search in this forum the other day on the Fidanza flywheels, and only came up with 4 hits. I read in one of the threads that Howell is like the only place you can get a modular Fidanza flywheel. Is that true?

I've been all over the internet: DSMtuners, pttuning, ExtremePSI, as well as others, and I can't find this thing - only the non-modular one.

Does anyone have it and how do you like it? I'd like to retain the modular style clutch so I can drop the tranny and swap clutches easier.

We should be able to get them through Fidanza, but I can't say what turn around time would be. That would all depend on availibility.

I thought you didn't want a lightened flywheel with turbo? At least, that's what I've heard.

I don't know, never thought about it - is that true? Too much torque for the aluminum? I know the 4g63 turbo guys run lightened FW - there's a ton of them on the market.

the only problem ive heard about with lightweight flywheels is sometimes the computer (PCM) flips out when the flywheel accelerates too quickly (from boosted torque) and sometimes when it decelerates quickly it confuses the PCM. (? correct me if im wrong though?)

other than that, most aftermarket flywheels can handle gobs of torque, just stay away from "home mod" lightened flywheels, since they can explode and take very important things with it.

Thanks for the input. I don't think I'm going to be doing any kinda of "home-job" on my flywheel to lighten it - that doesn't sound like a good idea. For now I think I am just going to stay with my stocker the way it is.

The rotational mass is lighter so the engine will revs up faster. But because it's lighter there's les momentum, so the engine also revs down faster as well. So if you are slow on a shift your boost level could drop down farther.

In a race you should be shifting fast enough that I don't see it being a problem.
