It's been discussed before, but the threads I read had conflicting information, so I'm posting here so I can get some definate answers.

So, the NVG-T850 is the Neon SRT-4 transmission. In a previous thread in this section, people said it should bolt up to our engines since our transmission can bolt up to the 2.4L, but some called against it because the NVG-T850 (which people, I believe, mistakenly thought was the T750) had "milder gear ratios".

Obviously, this isn't the case. I remember reading that our transmission is rated up to 160 ft/lb of torque (I believe, correct me if I'm mistaken), whereas the T850 is rated up to 300 ft/lb. Now, knowing how much our transmission can actually withstand, the T850 could very well be a beast, that Forward Motion Inc. has stated is virtually bombproof.

My question is, what all would be involved in switching? When I have my engine built by VT, I could swap transmissions also, but what all would I run into? It seems like an excellant upgrade, and I'm just curious what it would take to make it happen...

um... the nv-t350 is a good tranny. i9 havent broken any gears yet. im around 320 chp.

And the 2.0L incarnation of the 420A is a good engine, but still people swap in 2.4L engines ;p

The 850 is MUCH longer from bellhousing to endplate (it uses a cast endplate, probably integrates the case bearing for easier disaddembly). I am not sure that it would fit in a 2GNT. I know it doesn't fit into a 1G Neon, and their strut towers are further apart then our shock towers.

I do not think it will physically fit in a 2gnt engine bay without modifications to the frame.

Yeah the trans is a pretty big unit. Physical space would be a big concern as well as the need for custome components, tops on my list of parts that probably have to be custom made is axles.

The gear set is milder on the T850. The gear ratios are farther apart, and with the final drive being lower, each gear will carry you to a higher speed compared to the NV-T350. The NV-T850 need a good amount of power to be useful, otherwise you will actually be slower with the NV-T850. Milder does not weaker, the NV-T850 is very beefy.

I wouldn't even concider it unless you are running high boost levels

I wish you luck if you want to try it, but expect a lot of down time while you test and fabricate what's needed, and most likely wait for axles to be made.

Sorry man, I'm actually selling my '97 Talon in a year once I fix 'er up, then going (with a large down payment in tow) to my local Dodge dealer and getting an SRT-4.

Why not the sohc neon 3.55? Swap bellhousings and clutch stuff and voila! ;)

i think the point was strength, not top speed. but yes, 3.55 = good for high hp.
