2487, Trans Noise...Just replaced Output shaft bearing Posted by 95GSEclipse, Mar-19-04 02:19 PM
Ok my trans has been making a really REALLY loud noise almost like all my gears are trying to grind eachother. I just put in a new clutch and a new TOB so i read up and decided that the problem must be the OUTPUT shaft bearing...so i bought the stupid 45 dollar bearing and put it in....start up the car and the tranny still makes the same noise...(not to mention that when i stand up to see what the noise was i close the door then slam the hood cuase im mad...so my fucking car locks the doors on me.....so im standing outside of my running car as it makes this shitty grinding noise so you should see that im very frustrated) This noise will only happen when the clutch is let out and will stop if i posision the shift right in the beginning of reverse or if i go down the street and get up to like 40-50 mph....I guess i didnt check through the trans enough...what do you guys think the problem is....I think its the input shaft bearing then....

its the tob. and yes im positive. you will know when you have a broken output shaft bearing. and the input shaft bearing is also a seal, so you will know if that goes also

i thought that a bad throwout bearing will cause clutch noise when it's pushed in, not let off?

When you push the clutch down, it forces the TOB against the PP.. so the bearing can't rattle.

I am getting the same grinding between 2000 & 3000rpm. I'm also getting vibration under hard acceleration. What could this be? I have typical TOB noise at idle and it stops when the clutch is pushed in, but the grinding noise persists even when the clutch is pushed in. There is about 10,000 miles on this TOB.
