2241, What can I use as a temp seal for tranny case? Posted by mkerley, Feb-18-04 07:31 AM
I have a leak I believe is coming from my tranny case. It's very slow. It's only about 1-2 drops per day, but still not good. I plan on dropping the engine to replace it this spring/summer, so I just want a temporary fix until I can rip apart the stupid case a reseal it correctly. Anybody think there would be any problems by putting silicon around the outside of the seal where I find the leak (if I find it)?
I can't see any problems with it, but thought I'd run it by you guys first to see if anybody knew a reason not to do this.
Thanks! Matt

Go right ahead.
Make sure it's actually trans fluid. Could be motor oil from above.

I plan on cleaning the whole area really good and then driving it for a little bit to see if I can get a small bit of it out. Then I'll hopefully know a general location to apply the silicon.
Thanks!
