2236, Sign of clutch going bad?
Posted by SilverRS, Feb-17-04 02:32 AM
When I went to the track last week I reved my motor up to launch but the car keeps rolling very slowly the clutch is in all the way and I rev it to about 4K. Is this a sign that my clutch is starting to slip? I am on stock clutch right now and have about 73K on my car.

Thanks

So let me get this straight.. you reved to 4K with the clutch on the floor, and the car was slowly inching forward?

If so, no, that's not the clutch slipping. More likely that is a hydralic problem causing the clutch to not completely disengage (do you grind gears much?) or a trans bearing that is either very tight, or not getting enough lubrication and is sticking/binding and is about to go out.

yea the car was inching forward, the car doesn't grind going in gear except for sometimes when I forget to put the clutch all the way in also a few times my car has been hard to get in gear but it hardly ever happens. What would you suggest for me to do?

Drive it. Nothing you can do except change the fluid.

So basically the only way to fix would be to replace the transmition? Would the changing fluid and new clutch w/ flywheel do anything to help it? Sorry I don't know much about transmitions.

new clutch... nah.

Changing the fluid might help. Chances are, nothing bad will ever come of that behavior. Don't sweat it.

Try what works.

To not redlight, stage late.

How much roll are we talking here? Feet? Inches?

Inches, it just creeps up enough to make the staging light go off.
