I just finished an ATX-to-MTX swap and I'm trying to iron out a few bugs. Here's a list of my issues with ideas or possible fixes-

1. Exhaust pipe hitting top of the rear crossmember
-- IDEA 1: Try to bend pipe up and secure
-- IDEA 2: Weld the pipe to the rear crossmember (small weld)

2. Execessive engine movement during clutch accel/deceleration
-- CAUSE: SPEC Stage 3 Clutch
-- IDEA 1: Just reinstall solid front motor mount
-- IDEA 2: Fabricate a solid rear motor mount
-- IDEA 3: Solid front mount and poly-filled rear mount

3. Engine dies when coming to a stop (?? not sure why ??)
-- IDEA 1: Tranny speed sensor IS unplugged (I don't have the plug)
-- QUESTION: Does the ECU need a speed signal to keep car running?
-- POSSIBLE: Does it use said signal to adjust fuel or IAC?

4. No reverse lights
-- FIX: Tranny reverse switch IS unplugged (don't have plug)
-- QUESTION: Got any ideas on making a connector for reverse or speed sensors, I already know the pin layouts?


Any thoughts or insights?

I fixed most of the problems.

This was a simple fix. I just bent the exhaust hangers down, which pushes the pipe up.

I'm going to buy the acutal plugs for speed/reverse sensors.

The motor mounts are to blame for this. I can't believe how much engine movement there is with the SPEC 3 clutch! It moves so much that the tranny occasionally rocks back and hits the front suspension crossmember. Fixing this is my number one priority right now. I'm going to re-install my solid front mount, but I think the rear needs some support too. Any suggestions? What do you guys do with your rear mount? I really don't want to make it completely solid. I've heard about using 3M window weld, but I can't find it and don't feel like searching town for it.

Yes, the VSS is used to provide idle air feedback. Ever notice the Revs don't drop all the way down to idle range until the car stops moving?

When you purchase a new speed sensor for a 95 car, the sensor comes with a 97+ style connector and a harness pigtail. Easiest way is to just buy a whole new sensor so you can get the pigtail too.

Reverse lights, just connect the wires to the pins. My plug melted off (don't ask), works fine with no plug..

Good info... I'll check into getting a new sensor from Dodge in the morning. The rear ES insert will not fit my mount because the mount is from my old ATX (just swapped). I do have a set of ES inserts, so maybe I'll see if Dodge also has an MTX rear mount I can buy. Thanks man. :thumbsup

You should contribute the the sad excuse for a write up that we have...:shrug

I checked with Dodge for the speed sensor and apparently they don't come with a wiring plug. Where did you get yours?

Buy it from Mitsu or Napa.

It may not come with it, but they should be able to pull a part number and get it for you.

It's not just the Stage 3 clutch, my stock clutch engine jumps around. The auto trans is quite a bit heavier than the manual, which makes it easier for the manual to jump around compared to the auto.

Yes, when I did the swap I soldiered all my wires right to the sensors prongs. I wasnt able to find any plugs either. My works great. Then I filled around the wires with black silicon to protect from elements.

Sweet cars... very clean... I like.

I put the first 70 miles on the new tranny and clutch today
and this setup kicks ass!  A lot of issues I was having over
10 psi of boost with the ATX are now fixed with the MTX in
there.  Magically, the boost pressure is consistant and the
fuel curve has leveled out.  :thumbsup

well, the time has come.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but Dino, you pretty much confrimed it. The two trannies I have here have VSS with round pins and bigger then the connectors Ive been buying for the VSS.

This Threw me off because the wire colors mathed the ecu wires and the where identical to my Coils...which I know is the same plug.

I know for a fact one tranny came from a 95 the other I think a 96ish?

So 95s came withe theese wound pinned Plugs?

I know you guys will laugh, but I needed the speedo and didnt just want the pins hanging in there, what I ended up doing was using a connector from an old computer power supply...yes you read right.

95/96 had the round pin Chrysler style speedo/Coil plug. The 97+ got the mitsu style flat pin plug.

If you buy a sensor it will have the flat pin plug only so you will need the 30.00 (at least thats what they charged me) connector package to convert.

bleh, both the older sensors work and none can see my improvised connector. So, till they take a dump its not worth nuying a new one.
