1919, differential differences - do they differentiate? Posted by DR1665, Dec-24-03 09:45 AM
Question: Although the gear set in the Auto tranny is different from that of the NVT-350, and although the AT uses a torque converter instead of a clutch, are teh differencials any different?
I don't think I've ever seen anything mentioned about the LSDs available only being available for one tranny and not the other. I'm asking as I have a spare AT sitting around that I think would be good to use to practice pulling the differential to have one of the retrofits installed in when the time comes.
Am I on the right track? They meet the engine in the same way, with the flex plate, and they output in the same fashion, with the same CVs, right? Please enlighten!
Thanks!

I am not saying this is a fact, but I asked Dino about this, and I think its the same from pics it looks like it is. Dino sorta agreed but he had also never seen an auto one. He did mention that maybe its just the ring gear around it thats different?

I'm pretty sure there are slight differences. The housing I believe is slightly larger, it's close but, but I havent' compared for sure.
Brian, are you in need of that diff? We are about to start offering Retrofit diffs and I want to get it set to roll and offer the auto guys too, but I need a diff to do The initial set up on.

They are different. The carrier is completely different and not interchangable.

also, a differential means EVERYTHING when it comes to driveability, speed and torque, if you get a new differential, make sure it is either EXACTLY the same, or a performance diff. for your car specifically.
