This is my first post as a member but I have been reading for over a year. I have a 96 eclipse with a Hahn stage 2 kit. My problem is that my transmission is having problems. First after a good night out on the town my transmission would not go into 1st with out the car in motion. All the other gears went in rough but they went in. Second, about a week later a strong smell came from the engine with a strong jerk. I also noticed fluid on the clutch pedal. This morning I noticed all of the fluid gone from the clutch master cylinder. . When the car is off the clutch will go into the gears, but when turned on no gear will engage. So is it hydrolic or mechanical? Any advice would be of help.

You may have ruptured the rubber clutch fluid line and all the fluid leaked out.

Follow the line down from the clutch fluid reservoir and see if you can find the leak. This is most likely the problem.

You can also check the clutch bleeder. It looks like a bleeder on a brake caliper.

Find where the leak is and your problem should be solved. The smell could have come from the fluid burning on your exhaust manifold/exhaust(spraying out when you pumped the clutch pedal).

The clutch probably isn't the problem. I'd check the hydralics first. if there was fluid on the pedal, then you have a hydralic problem, not a mechanical issue.

The clutch isn't your problem. You're losing clutch fluid. Without it, the clutch won't work properly. Fix the leak and you tranny should operate just fine.


Here are the most likely places to leak:

1. Rubber line between clutch fluid resevior and master cylinder in.
2. Master cylinder out fitting
3. Rubber line between clutch master cylinder out and slave cylinder in.
4. slave cylinder in fitting
5. slave cylinder bleed valve
