1402, trans leaking fluid Posted by etx, Sep-11-03 04:36 PM
after installing my motor last weekend i filled up my trans with fluid. While it was out I had opened it to install the new skool lsd and diff pin safing brackets. I also put in new oil seals where the axel goes into the diff. Well I know i spilled a lot of fluid when filling the trans up, but i have been noticing a lot of fluid down there. So i threw a paper bag under there to see if its still leaking. It is. damnit. I looks like its coming from the oil seal. I just poped the old one out and banged the new one in there. It went in fine, didnt bend or anything. Also, another thing, this oil seal is a different brand, the one on the other side is a federal mogul seal and the one that looks like its leaking is something else, it had green paint on it. The passenger side one (Federal mogul) has red paint on it, just like the one I had removed. Its still dark outside so i haven't gotten a good look at it. My question is, where could it be leaking? I used red loctite 518 on the surface when i put the bellhousing back on. I think the only place it could be leaking from is those oil seals. I greased them and was very very careful about not hitting them with the axel when i installed them. Mabye an axel is not all the way in? I think i put them in good tho. Any ideas guys? thanks!!

BUMMMP!
I got under the car today, the green things on the axels are about a 1/4 inch away from the trans housing. Are they in all the way? The oil seals look like they are doing thier job. I poped the rubber fill plug out and fluid came out. So it should be full right? Mabye this fluid under the car is motor oil, i couldnt get the oil line to the turbo on right i think, so i torqued it down as hard as I could, mabye its cross threaded. let me know guys, thanks!!!
