So how do u know if you have the new design and not the old? Also, what
steps will be taken to have the old defective clutches replaced for those who may have purchased them?

We'd have to see a pic to tell. But they have also not been out so long, so purchase date would tell us. We are replacing them for those who have had the covers crack.

.....I guess I'll be ordering one soon enough :shrug
