893, Tranny whine?!?!?!?!?!(long guy)
Posted by InFiNiT3, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
ok guys check this out.........at idol the car sounds fine ,at low rpms the car sounds fine..... at 4k rpms i get a real high pitch whine under the hood so i pull back in my driveway and open the hood i dont hear it much so i rev the car a lil and i hear a terrible whine almost like a turbo spooling @ 10000 rpms c:thumbsup . So what i do is get a broomstick (no broom) and start poking around listening to the motor at idol.... i find out the whine is comming from where the motor and tranny connect... so im thinking torqe converter???? maybe..... I end up hauling ass down to autozone (they closed in like 10 mins) buying tranny fluid and a new filter...i swap filters and fluid and now the noise is gone even at high rev.... but ive got a gut feeling this is only a temp. fix. my question is WTF could it be.......there is 87k on the trany.
help me out guys....
BTW if anyones from the so-cal riverside/north county area hit me up.

Thanks

oh shiet man, tell me you just used Mopar tranny fluid right? Almost everyone who used anything else has had their tranny fail shortly after. That stuff is made for our cars, nothing less.

As for the whine, I have no idea. My auto is acting up too.

hehe sorry , Im in the Montebello Area, 20 mins? without traffic west from riverside.

My auto whines like a pissed off blower under the hood. I'm rebuilding my trans next week...thats all i have to say about that.

Thing about auto's you don't know whats wrong till you take it all apart.

Sorry dude, I dunno.

yea right now pretty much anything in my car that could leak oil, is doing so I'm taking it in tommorow to get everything fixed and having the bolt holes on the head retapped for bigger bolts.

whoah now hit the caps lock there buddy ;) yea the final drive mod is awesome even with my car running in such shitty condition, I marked off some spots on a straight road near my house for different pulls from and to different speeds, most areas I picked up 1-2mph but the most notable was my 40-65mph pull, it turned into a 40-70mph I picked up 5mph in that run. The mod is definitely worth it.

Talked with my transmission mechanic today about a whine ive got coming from my car changing from 1-2 gear. He said its the planetary gears making a little bit o' noise. Is the noise your car's making at idle, while moving, in between gears, when you push the gas and down shift, at rev.

answer those even if they havnt already been answered:). and ill try to help!

Joseph

ps - my car did the same thing recently (right before it blew up) and it turned out, as far as my mechanic knows, the torque converter blew up.
