4556, 95 tranny in a 97/98?

hey guys, I'm looking at a parts car tomorrow for $100 (as long as I let him keep the battery and cat, neither of which I need). It's a 95 and it has an automatic. The kid's dad gave him a 2gnt and it ran out of antifreeze going down the road and locked up the engine. Apparently the strut towers are rotted out and it's not worth fixing.

bottom line though, it's got an automatic transmission and my cousin might need a new one for her 2gnt. It's either a 97 or a 98. Basically what I need to know is if it will work for her car or not. If so, she'll get a cheap transmission and I'll break even on a parts car for me. If not, I guess I'll have a cheap spare.

not sure if you have to change the TCU to match or not. that'd be the only concern. Other than that, swap em.

I don't think that would be problem, so it sounds like I'm good to go on this one. The TCU is the little box behind the shifter in the car, correct? What about sensors, are the connectors different? If so, I guess she could use her harness and the one from the parts car to mix and match as needed.

The neutral safety switch may be different. It's a 10 pin plug that has 9 wires going to it. It's located in the front of the tranny closest to the drivers headlight. If the sensor/plug is different, you'll have to splice in the plug into the car from the old. Other than that, it should be PNP

Sounds good. I talked to my cousin's boyfriend today, since I work with him. They're interested in it but they're not sure if they want to fix the car or just declare bankruptcy on it. At first I was gonna offer to buy it and fix it up for my girlfriend but they owe way too much on it. We'll see.

If not I can keep it back as a cheap spare or sell it to someone else to pay for the rest of the car.

Thanks for answering my questions by the way.
