3802, Resetting computer for shifting error Posted by Gregs, Sep-14-05 12:17 PM
Hi guys!
I have this problem: sometimes, when I press gas up till 4000 rpm (in first gear only) and then suddenly release the gas, it shifts into second gear and stays there until I stop the car and start it again (otherwise the car is working perfectly). My mechanic said that this is some kind of sensor and he changed it, but the car still does the same. He said that this is due to memory in car's computer and that this error should be reset to zero.
Now the problem I have conciders these next "little" details: 1. I'm in Europe, driving Eclipse, which was made for USA and imported into Europe 2. nobody has tester to get the error code and reset the error from my US car.
Is it possible to manually reset all errors from car's computer, without tester you plug-in to check error codes? Or any other idea what to do?
Thanks!

Disconnect the battery cables for about an hour, this should kill all stored info and start you over.

Thanks... I guess it works... I've tried the usual acceleration (when it stucked in 2nd gear) and it works normally... Hope it stays that way... ;)

Well... today it stuck in second again... :( So I guess it didn't reset the error to zero although baterry was off for almost a day. Now I'm back to the beggining...
BTW: do you think the reason can be the holders of the engine? That if they are not holding the engine tight (mechanic said that the holders are not very good and should be replaced) and when the car shakes when it shifts, the gear can be stuck in second? Just an idea...

no , if the trans is stuck in 2nd gear it is called "limp mode" and is cause by 1 of 3 things 1: low trans fluid 2: electronic error 3: sticky valve in valve body assem.
your best bet in euro. is to find a crystler / mercedes dealership. They will have the correct equipment for your car.
