Ok basically i am at my whits end here. i have posted on dsmtuners and got nothing hoping for something here. basically what is going on is that my 95 rs w/108k won't shift out of 2nd gear (i call it limp mode) after driving it for like 45 mins straight. it started doing this like a year ago and didn't really see what the issue was. i can let the car sit for like an hour or less and it will run and shift just fine. i had it hooked up on a computer and it said speed sensor bad replaced it and still does. hooked it up second time and no codes. said something about a heat sensor and it is getting replaced as well. please i need any help that i can get here i am desperate. i need to get this fixed and get fixed quickly before any more damage comes out of this.

no see that is just the thing i am not getting any codes saying anything. basically when the computer is hooked up testing it everything shows fine. so really even though the below thread are similar i am thinking it is something different. if you have any ideas though it would be helpfull.

SINCE IT DOESNT HAPPEN UPON START UP (fuckin caps again) only after driving it for long periods of time its most likely high temp sending it into limp mode.fluid temp over 220* can send the trans into limp.change the filter and do a complete flush (not just drain) when u refill the trans use atf +4 its more of a synthetic vers. and with stands heat better than the old stuff. also try addding a larger cooler. this should cure the problem unless your TC is shot. also i reconmend installing a trans temp gauge (40$) from autozone so u can monitor whats going on.

Just to let u know tho...(not to scare ya or nothing) but mine did the same thing for about 3 months b4 my tranny went the first time. I just wish i knew then what i know now i may have been able to save it :(

they drained all the fluid (said it was dirty looking) and put all new fluid in but don't know what kind. appreciate the help so far but knowing my luck i will need a new tranny. owned 4 vehicles and of those 3 needed new trannys. hmm maybe it is time for a mt swap. but i keep you updated on what is going on with it.

who is they? and draining it isnt flushing the trans... if they drained it.... u still have a lil over 2 quarts of ur old trans fluid still in your tranny

sorry for being vague. they= transmission shop working on it and shop that i use to get parts from (closed down now) said that doing a tranny flush with it having 108k might not be a good idea could cause the tranny to go out entirely. they said it could fix issue for good or it could last 6 months. basically i am waiting to hear back from the transmission shop to see what the guy has to say and i should know that tomorrow. oh and btw i am not in same city as my car. the car is like over 100 miles away while i am off at school with fiance. man i knew moving to a bigger city was a bad idea :(.

Do you lose your speedometer or tach when this happens? It doesnt make sense that you arent throwing any type of code. If you are entering limp mode then there should be a code that signals the reason this occured. The fact that you did get a code saying speed sensor could possibly relate to the input or output sensors. This would cause your problem if they failed or were functioning incorrectly. However other things you describe lean away from this. The fact that there are no codes is very odd unless there is some type of mechanical issue. The fact that it goes away after it sits for a while could relate to fluid levels or temps. But the temp should cause the transmission to throw a code.

right once again sorry about the vagueness of my post (at working trying to do actual work at same time posting.) the reason it didn't throw a code the second time is cause it had sat over night and then trailored to the shop. so it was actually not in limp mode when the shop hooked it up to the computer. i mean truthfully i am thinking the heat sensor is what could be causing the whole thing cause the guy said it was bad but didn't replace it. so hence when driving for like 45 mins to an hour it f**ks up and then i let it sit, tranny cools down, and then it goes back to normal. hey i appreciate all the input from you guys you are getting me a step closer to getting this problem resolved and oh yeah infiniti you get my vote on your thread :thumbsup

YA BUT THERE COULD BE A "SOFT" CODE IN THE ECU.... THESE CODE WILL NOT THROW (fuckin caps) and engine light or cell. these type of codes can only be checked via the manufacturer drb (scanner) the one your tranny shop is useing is a generic . U must take it to crystler of mitsu to have this done properly. they should do it for only 75$ but at least you'll know exactly what the prob is.

yeah well see that is the messed up thing there really isn't a chrysler lot around where i live lol. we have a olds/pontiac, ford/lincoln/mercury, and chevy/gmc lot. i have a buddy that works at the chrysler lot and i might try to check it out there. i probable sound really stupid about all this right now but i have no idea what is going on. and don't flame on me if one of the lots above is chrysler lol. but i will try and get some more info and let you guys know later on.

ok well nothing new has come today. i did pass all of the information that i have gotten and hopefully i will find more out tomorrow. man i really hope i can get this done up and ready before the shootout beings it will be my first but i know that is like still 2 months or more away. thanks again and i will be back tomorrow.

ok well the day has come the tranny is fixed or supposed to be fixed. the shop guy drove it for the past two days and he finally got it do what it has been doing to me for the past year and he says it was a coil. now obviously i don't know anything about transmissions so i am not for sure what he is talking about. but after replacing this coil he drove it for like an hour or more straight on stop and go situations and didn't mess up any and said it is golden. dad is going to check it out and double cehck to make sure running right before we leave with it. thanks to infiniti3 and everyone else that helped me out. just another reason for for me to post here more then dsmtuners.

as if you needed another reason, heh. I think by "coil" he was talking abou tthe stock copper coil that is the factory tranny cooler. get a beefier one, it cant hurt.

don't really know cause dad didn't really say just said "coil". but yeah it is in the works probable next month to get a tranny cooler just need to find one and get money for it. but thanks again to everyone who helped out.
