3556, Dropped the pan yesterday...
Posted by xcasbonx, Apr-06-05 04:32 AM
To find the following:

Pan

Magnet

Late last fall my atx went bezerk and starting doing really weird shit. It started one day when I took a turn and the car just completely stalled, and then would not start back up until after several tries. After that, the tranny would shift awkwardly and violent, like it had a mind of its own. I have no clue wtf happened.

The magnet is SMOTHERED in metal shavings, and the remaining fluid floating around in the pan is like sludge. Fluid is practically black with some greyish tint. I still don't know exactly what went wrong. This atx is going to be trash though, I'm working on pulling it soon, and already have an mtx bought and waiting to be shipped.

Anyone have a writeup or can direct me towards some info on pulling the out this slushbox as well as popping the axles out and IF they have to be changed to fit an mtx. I've heard from two different sources that the splines are different between atx and mtx axles.

my magnets are covered with small metal shavings every time i drop mine too.

my fluid however is always a nice red color.

i dont know if there really is a writeup. theres a swap writeup, but the physical process of removing the trans no.

hope that somewhat helps. good luck.

Thanks Matt, the link will help out. I just noticed though that the pics on the page do not load. Everywhere it says (pic) there isn't one.
