Hi!

I wonder: is it better to drive always in D and not switching between driving into 2 (when you need to pass someone and you want to be prepared for a quick pass) or N (when you stay at traffic light) or it doesn't matter if you switch between the ride?

I've been told that is better to switch as less as possible (except when you need to) because every shift with the stick means loading or unloading of transmission of power from engine to wheels and therefore all intermediate joints suffer, mostly differential.

Is this true or not?

yes its bad, dont do it, its an automatic tranny its supposed to shift itself, not have you do it.

its a waste of time .. like it or not your auto ... but what you could do is release the gas pedal quickly wait a quick moment and re-apply the gas (only when u feel the car shift)... this causes a sort of manual feel shift ... the transmission will upshift automatically when u release the gas .... so basically take it up to like 6000 release gas ... re-apply when u feel the shift

what oracle said is a good way to drive it. best economy comes with brisk acceleration and short shifting, so give good gas and let up at 3,500rpm, it will shift by 4,000rpm, and then get your foot back into it but not too hard or it will downshift again... why do you put your car into neutral at a stoplight? only ricers do that, when they rev pulling up to the line everywhere to try and dupe people into thinking they have a standard.

Good idea however, I never notice the downshift that you speak of. I know my first gear is pretty slow so I usually get it to shift at like 3.5k then floor it. It doesn't downshift...

your TCU is stuck in its ways, they do learn ya know...
i guess if you RLY wanted to change it you could pull the battery cable so it can learn again, but that also kills your fuel trims.

it sucks cuz i had to pull my batt cable yesterday and my car isnt being itself yet

ive been debating on whether droppin my 1998 eclipse gs in low when racing auctally helps it then shiftin into 2nd but ive found the same thing as u when driving and i want it to shift i jus trelease the gas about 5 1/2 grand and then drop the pedal back down it shifts a lot better without the lag of it red lining every shift..
