3242, Ever notice how our trannys shift selector works?

Well since I went 5 -spd I decided to check on the auto sitting all alone. I plated with the gear selector. Now we have P R N D 2 L, but if you have it disconnected from the shifter wire, there are 7 spots that it can shift to... anyone have any answers? interesting IMO.
