3073, So, A604 == F4AC1?
Posted by ShadowRuleZ, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I used the search to try and find the term "F4AC1" which is the auto code I found at the DSM vFAQ site.

Then I managed to find your site, which is all about the 2G NT. However, the forum I see here is an A604 forum.

So are these transmissions the same?

I'm hoping the answer is that they aren't, as I already have one fried A604 from a lebaron sitting in the garage and I really don't want to trust another one after researching that trans.

I'll make a formal introduction post eventually when I get some pics of this car up. It's a 95 Talon ESi.

Are these A604s any better than the previous A604s? I know Chrysler changed the name to 41TE or something like that. Otherwise I'm praying the previous owner decided that it was a good idea to keep 7176 in it and not dump anything else in there.

there have been some design changes since the a604 to 41te name change so yes the newer the tranny the better it is, run an extra tranny cooler at all times on these along with atf+3 and you will be just fine, mine has over 90K miles on it and changes gears just like it did when it was new and Ive had no problems and I beat it.

41TE = A604 = F4AC1 = The general model of transmission in the Eclipse Non turbo, 420a powered, automatic cars.

Not all 41TE/A604/F4AC1 are equal though, for example the "same" exact transmission model is used in everything from a 1989 Dodge Dynasty to 2001 Plymouth Voyager minivans.

speaking of the 41te.... aka 3rd gen a604......
i was just thinking a lil... figured id do a lil more homeowrk 1st b4 posting this... but maybe some1 has tried this already....anyone try swapping our solenoid pack w/ the 41te pack from the caravan???..??just a thaught cause the shifts r shorter in the 1/2 transision and longer in the 2-3 / 3-4 transision...we could benifite from this..but like i said its just a thaught.. and id appreciate any info anyone runs across.... ie: solenoid diagrams / hydro diagrams from both tranny....should be very similar but hey its the little shit that fucks up our mods..

the shift timing is regulated by the TCU not the solenoid pack. the pack is mindless, it just opens when energized by the TCU.

There is an upgraded solenoid pack that will get rid of the ratcheting when downshifting/putting it into gears, but the TCU controls the shifting schedule
