comments??
EDIT:reason im considering the 3 speed neon trany is cause i feel it might give me more consistent ET's and its potential has been prooven once its built right....
Might actually consider doing the 850 trany if i find a junked srt-4!

Err i guess 22 views only 4 votes and 1 mine? (i voted to blow up the 604)
BTW annyone remember what was the weak mechanical point of our transmisions? oh and about my idea of the 604-606 parts here for yer viewing pleasure (btw been reading all afternoon that the 606 has problems with engines of over 300+hp installed in it, now i hope its the clutches cause if the internalls can survive....see where im going...look at these pics and you will get my idea)

Valve bodies are custom calibrated to provide firm positive shifts Large apply area O.E.M. servo is installed to provide maximum band clamping force Aftermarket designed sealing rings are installed to minimize hydraulic leakage Additional clutches are installed New one-way clutches/sprags are installed Revised end clutch is installed to increase the holding capacity of the problematic overdrive clutches Cooler / converter oil circuit is redesigned to improve lube flow Redesigned band apply pin is installed to provide firmer 1-2 and 3-4 shifts Sun shell is heat treated to prevent spline stripping
5speed WHAT?

I sheared off the 3rd gear gear hub.
having everything else in the tranny upgraded didnt help me when the gear is the part that sheared off, and im only making in the 300hp/tq range (18psi w/ the s16g)

Exactly Ryan...i saw what hapened to you and i was like F$%^ it...im not upgrading my 604...but then i saw that the 606 internals (what you broke) were designed to be stronger (604 designed for level 1 torque ergo its 41te...606 is level 2 torque thats why its 42le..then again id love to have a500 level 4 torque/44re internals in there :evil)
BTW using the 604 diagram can you tell me which part # broke??
Im leaning on doing the 5 speed now cause although the upfront cost cause of labor might be high (well yes im doing a lot of it..but allways need help..and help costs me yah know....wished i was in socal :) ) but its cheaper to buy new clutches and install em than to rebuild auto after auto (i calculate i would waste about 1 clutch every 6 months...conservatively....or else was gona buy second 670 and have it rebuilt ready to swap in if i blow it at the track cost for a rebuilt 670 is 600ish)....dont know of anyone exept Bill Hahn runing that much TQ through the 5 speed..seems he has no problems but he is a master at launching it (which i suck at launching stick, In other words i will kill a couple of clutches), BTW yes switching to the RWD trans is NO go (at least this year)
Man do i make anny sense???

See the clutch hubs in line C, 3343 and 3345?
the shaft on the end of the hub has a gear on it...well, i sheared the entire shaft off the hub, so now its just free spinning, caus it isnt connceted to the hub anymore.
I believe its the OD clutch hub is the one that i sheared off.
1st and 2nd are still fine, still grabs hard (i spin all of 1st and most of 2nd even still), but 3rd is nonexistint.

Ok this is good info...that means 1st and 2nd are prety strong...so i guess what you broke is the same peice as the 606 has..might just spend 600 bucks on those 1 year warranty trans on ebay hehehe..heck if it lasts me a year id be amazed

Or it means his turbo didn't spool up to full boost in 1st and 2nd gears. If he was only getting like 8-10lbs in the first two gears and then got like 16 in third, see where Im going, maybe thats how he killed third. Just a thought from an n/t guy.

that be fine if that were true, but I have a 16g.
i get 18lbs of boost in 1st and it stays at 18lbs until i let off.

EEEK another vote for watch it explode?? wtf
Anyways no the a604 is not gona be executed by torque overload...the 3 speed is going in with the 2.4 and turbo all at once...
