Thinkin about gettin and Auto, what are some good things to consider about A/T that would make me happier about gettin it. It would be with a turbo car to, no lag. Let me know. Thanks

well AT guys can maintain boost through the shift regularly, and lots of high HP vechiles are AT. if you remember the lingenfielter (sp?) corvette that they pitted against the f-18 or whatever...my dad knows the guy personally and said they were origionally gonna do it in a standard tranny car, but after a while they could not find a clutch that would hold the power....even custom clutches...and i guess some people like them for a daily driver and in traffic and such. me personally im a MT guy all around but auto does have its advantages.

hold ur girl's hand, change cd's no prob. Just beat it, drink sodas, eat, whatever you can do with 1 hand pretty much. You can learn how to make it do tricks. I'm still gonna show someone off here that I can chirp 2nd. }(

One hand? shit learn to drive with your knees! hehe

Hey man check out the A604 section to see what you can and cannot do to an AT transmission. I actually kinda like my AT tranny. Specially once you build it up and blow away MTs}( they get all pissy hehe cause they gotta row

god gave me 5 gears to cherish and a 3rd petal to modulate them. can you say "toe heel"?

i still like the1bill's quote i saw a little while back:
"i did the ultimate A/T mod, i got rid of the thing."

but for real, i guess it's easy to do lots of stuff and drive at the same time with an automatic. for the 3 months that my car was down i was "stuck" with my dad's 2000 Merc C280. tiptronic, but the car is still a lot of fun. i could talk on a cell phone, eat dinner, or whatever and not have to deal with shifting.

back in my high school commuting days, i used to stop at dunkin donuts every day on the way and buy a vanilla chai and a breakfast sandwitch, and eat it on the highway. i love the quote about driving with your knees! i mastered it! i suck at it now though, i'm all rusty.

then again, a manual transmission is just more fun than driving an automatic. that's what did it for me, and why i would have issues owning an automatic. i think i'm done now.

if u have to drive anywhere with a shitload of traffic then a auto is your best bet....I have a stick and driving around the D.C. metropolitan area on 495 is a huge bitch...Anyone from Md. knows what im talking about.....If its a daily driver and u sit in traffic, buy an auto.

I would NOT trade my AUTO for a 5 speed. Going fast isn't that important.

I agree - i have more fun country road driving and sipping a 64oz from Exxon at the same time}(

but the track is fun!:) just takes more for the automatic guys to have fun going in a straight line fast.

I have a both. I own a 5sp RS-T and love to drive it. I have an auto POS van w/ custom rust that's great for taking shit around and kicking back a cold one (pop that is). I'm also building my 64 Comet w/ a built 351W and a built C-4. I want that car auto b/c it's going to go consistently quick.

I had to drive my wifes MT Civic for a couple weeks once. It has a 1.5l and 92 hp. I was amazed at how that little POS moves with a 5 speed. But I HATED driving it during rush hour (DC metro area). Stopping on hills with jerks in BMWs on your ass, dropping it into the wrong gear, stalling at lights...I was glad to be back in my Talon (AT). If I living in the country or something, I'd have a MT. But, I think I'm doomed to spend my life in traffic, so I prefer AT.

That's just because you don't drive 5spd very well ;-)

Hey i live in the city, drive the 5speeder and love it. Been driving MT DSM's for 6 years. I can eat and drive with my knee, or Smoke, talk on the phone and drive np. even geting your shifter polished :thumbsup isnt a problem. I would'nt switch for anything in the world. AT Sports car are just not right.

lol yea i miss getting head while driving... ;(
in my old station wagon (auto) the front seat was basically like a couch. shifter was on the steering column. damn i miss those long drives... shifting just gets in the way too much. haha but it's fun to drive.

Hey 9D9 Mitsu RS that makes two of us that have been doubted on that. People just dont think its possible for us autos. Had a guy with a Turbo auto tell me It wasnt possible awhile back. Dont know whats up with the rest of the peoples autos but I can consistantly chirp second. One of these days Ill video the shit and post it. Glad to know at least two of us are on the same page with that.

Chirping 2nd in an auto is like clockwork once you got the timing.
I couldn't do it stock, but after intake, exhaust, and final drive gears its consistent. Now w/ udp and some weight reduction, I chirp it hard.

People that dont believe are just haters hehe :)

LOL I can't wait til I am able to chirp second to some homo in a 'teg or a Civic. Oughta be a nice surprise to them - as everyone in this small town knows I drive an AT. Seem to think it's some sort of pussy thing to drive an AT. If I wasnt replacing my transmission I would have already bought the shift kit and final drive gears and all that good stuff:)

My tires are too good....I can't chirp my auto for shit..hehe! Well, except in the rain or on sandy surfaces. I'd love to have a 5 speed though....maybe a tranny swap after Dec. when she is paid off!!

I cant even get my car to peel out... EVER... I'm auto and I have the Final Drive Gears but still no chirp for me.... What the fuck? Could it be my tires? they are a little worn.

the advantage to Auto?

You'll never hear the following "Sure, my dumb ass can drive stick. . . . vroooommeeerrrrrrrrrr griiiiiiind clang"

of course as long at you don't let anyone touch your car, it's all good. it CAN be a bitch in traffic but once you find a nice back road there's nothing better

Another thing to consider is can you drive a MT. not raggin' on you here, but if you don't know how, you risk burning a clutch and having the cost of a new one, plus downtime. just a thought if this car will be your daily and you need it.

For me, chirping 2nd wasn't so easy with intake, exhaust, and final drive gears. You have to time it pretty good. As you're revving in 1st, get to about 6200 rpm, let off and wait about 1/2 sec to let it drop to like 6000rpm then slam it to the ground. If you time it right, you'll get a nice chirp and a nice rewarding snap-back for your neck.

It's not much, but through experimentation I've found it to be more effective than just the pedal to the ground method .. by almost 1/2 a car at times. The auto just shifts SOO SLOW. And it was hard to do with only exhaust, intake, and gears. With that and the udp and weight reduction its like clockwork, every single time almost.

As for peeling out, well you'll probaly need boost. I can spin them a lot if its wet, but my friend has a geo prizm stick that can do it better than me :(

Another advantage of having a/t : Kids talk smack about it. They think just because they drive a stick (on ANY car), they can take you. It makes them look ridiculous when they lose.

If you have a choice tho, buy the m/t if you can drive it.

For those of you saying A/T A/T A/T.. your only saying that because you own an automatic, (except for a few of you, which your reasons where legit).. i'm not trying to hate here. but manual for life! haha... i've owned 3 vehicles. the first 2 were A/T. and both of them, the transmission went on them. I personaly hate a/t. i had a chance to get a lowered gs-t, decked out, even dvd in the visor and a full custom install, 18" chrome rims. and so much more, i turned it down cuz it was A/T. m/t is just much more fun to drive... less you just can't drive ;) for those saying a/t is faster, thats slim to none, you better have a gsx with a ton of mods.. then your goind somewhere, your gonna have to spend alot to be thumpin on the m/t. and that goes for any car. our gears are tighter, unless u just race someone that sux, then good luck to ya.. i'm not a heavy racer, but just tonight i had someone pulll up beside me and say damn is that thing turbo. only cuz i was at 4000 rpm in 3rd and punched it, cars were tryin to take me in front of me, but had to get out of the way.. haha just way to much fun for me to say a/t a/t a/t :) but either way.. a/t or m/t.. our cars are one of the sexiest ones out there.. and price wise to looks. its the best bang for your buck! hands down

I'm not saying auto b/c I own one. I wish I would have got a stick at times- but honestly, I don't regret it at all. If I could have a 5 speed or auto NOW. I'd stay auto. I just don't NEED a stick. Auto is more convenient for me. It's all about preference.

traffic = auto
dont mind traffic, = 5 speed, i own both, auto clipse, 5 speed supra, they have their ups and downs

oh yeah, i can get my auto to peel out, chirp second, whatever, and the cars relatively stock

btw.
punching it 4000 rpms, us autos take off just as fast. pushing the pedal at 50mph, the trans shifts down into 2nd! talk about throwing you back into your seat. also the turbo a/t's can boost off the line.

never lift to shift.:thumbsup

I am at too and can chirp sec. I just time it right and get it to go just psat red line. Chirp away ever time. I prefer the at over a 5 speed. For convenience. Plus the old lady cant drive the stick. Plus when u can build it up, relatively cheap, to match a 5 speed, why not. Just my opinion but if a 4 speed can match a 5 speed, does that mean the 4 speed At would be faster than the 5 speed Mt if you could some how add a 5 gear range?

Just wondering but anyone ever look to see if there were any other A/T trannies to swap into ours(other then the 3-speed neon)

Im not going to start a war but IMO the auto is the way to go our autos thought of as weak by some actually are very capable and if your adding boost and plan on building your auto then auto will hand it to a stick. Put 2 99 2GNTS same weight, rims, tires, etc and get them both pushing 400 HP on a Dyno, then built both the auto and the manual tranny to there limits and my bet would for surely go on the auto. Just my .02:thumbsup

AT isn't bad. I get shit for it all the time but I don't want a daily driver that is MT... just not for me. It's what you want man, it's your car.
