I need this answer QUICK.
My 1997 eclipse, I just changed the tranny oil and I put in ATF-3 Coasta. And I also changed the filter and new seal also.

OK, here is my problem, before I did everything above, everything is perfect, afterward, I get this gear in delay. It only happens when I put into R and D.... during D gear, it changes gear fine. but whe nI first put into R or D, the car is in Neutral for like 1 second before it get into gear.

So now this is the problem, first I thought I didn't do the seal good, so tranny oil is leaking, so I checked everything to day, and got under the car, PERFECT.... Tranny oil is at PERFECT HEIGHT!

So what's sup??? Did this ever happened to any of you?

BTW, how should the tranny oil level should appears on the stick?

sounds like a fluid problem maybe. The fluid should be in the warm-hot area i spose, at any temperature that should be ok.

not to beat a dead horse, but how are you checking the fluid?

Well, what you mean by fluid problems?
Also, I clean the stick, and dip it in, and take it out and see the level.

The above |----|---------| diagram is not indicating that the level is at warm... I want to ask where the level should appear at cold and hot time?

dude no. i know how you check the fluid...

Do you start the car, run it through the gears and check it in N on a level surface or are you just pouring fluid in without doing all said above?

If so, you are overfilling the hell out of your transmission and are gunna burn up the pump:thumbsup

OK.... Now I redo everything over again.
I pour out all the fluid, replace the gasket.
THen what?

(am I right here?)
1) Start the car (with NO TRANNY FLUID - EMPTY)
2) Go through all the gears (moving the car? or just stop and move to each gear?)
3) then put the gear into neutral (at this point, should the engine still running?)
4) then at neutral, I pour in the tranny fluid?

Please help me.
I drove for about 20-40 miles after changing the tranny fluid.
And I NEVER push the car yet... no more then 3K RPM.
Will the pump be damaged NOW?

Please help me!!! I am very worried now.

Hey...Ok... this is the new updates.

Driving the car, stoped at the light.
Then the car is in Neutral state... even though it's still in D position, the car won't move....

What's wrong??? plesae... if it's the OIL is too much.
Can I just redo EVERYTHING... pour them out and so on?
But please guys..tell me what I have to do when I put the oil in and so on.... And what happened to the oil pump?

Will it be DEAD? or ??? just DON"T drive it now..and save it?

k, listen up:)

Im going to start from the beginning with a pan drain:

Drop the pan.
Let fluid drip out.
Replace Filter.
Replace Gasket.
Put pan back up.
Tighten Bolts.
Add {about} 4qts to start out. The whole tranny is 9.1qts, so we'll start with 4qts because you dont drain 100% with a drain and fill.
After adding, warm the engine up to operating speed.
WITH the car started and foot on the break never letting off shift through each gear:
P 5 seconds
R 5 seconds
N 5 seconds
D 5 seconds
N check fluid

Hope that clears up any misunderstanding.

Are you checking it with the car running. I had the same problem in a p.o.s. I had but I knew the pan was leaking it out. What that delay is from is lack of line pressure so the pump has to work a little to get the pressure up. That is what was meant by fluid problem :thumbsup

man sorry to be the one to tell ya this but your tranny is more than likely gone. maby you got lucky and just burnt up the pump but it sounds likt to me that you burnt up the clutches too. or if your really lucky and the dsm gods are on your side it just went into limp mode.

if its in limp mode just reste the tcu (transmission controll unit) by removeing the negative cable on your battery for 45 seconds and it should reset the tcu and the ecu. your car wont idle worth a shit for about a hour becuse it has to learn all the perameters again. if that doesnt work them my guess is that your tranny is burnt up. im going through similar probs but i know mines burnt up. thats a whole diff story tho.

look around for a rebuild ive been quoted ay where from 500-1800 for a rebuild. you can get a used a604 from a junk yard for anywhere between 300 and 1000 and it may not last long i would go with the rebuild cues u get a warenty and all

what ever you do just make sure the level is perfectly correct the a604 hates too little or to much and heat is our #1 enemy. while your at it install a remote filter and a cooler best 150 bucks you will ever spend.

Hes low on fluid and the tranny is doing what it was designed to do to protect itself. Dude you need to listen to franklin above as he stated you need to check the fluid properly. Ive seen this same exact thing happen with the A604 many times.

i know this is an old thread but i jus want to make sure. after those steps, should the level be in the warm zone or the hot zone? thanks
