i would like to know the temp range our tranny starts at etc. i have a autometer gauge and i dont like it since i cant really get a exact number. so just wondering what temp our tranny starts with and should be at etc? i might get a digital gauge soon.

You won't see much, if any, needle movement on a stock tranny unless it's really hot outside or you're running it hard or boosting high. Once you hit 190-195*f, shut it down... that's about as hot as you want to be.

mine does not even hit 100 for my tranny gauge..

Do you have a tranny cooler? How long have you had your gauge? You have to drive around for away for it to move.

yah i got a tranny cooler. i just see no point in the gauge if i cant see the #. thats what im getting at.. so i want to know what the normal city driving temp the tranny fluid should be at so i can find a gauge that gives a digital reading of that area.

Well, the Autometer gauge should work just fine... it does for many members here. Where do you have the sender tapped? It should be in the tranny oil pan. I think normal city temps are about 125*F... hard for me to say because my engine and tranny are both heavily modified.

yea, with a higher stall converter your temps should get higher...

the stopping point is about 195 you said doug?

I've got my sensor tee'd into the fluid outlet on the tranny. I've also got the sender grounded to the chassis. The ground path changes the reading on the Autometer sensor. So, mine probably reads higher than someone who doesn't externally ground the sensor. I cruise around at 180F and can hit 215F while boosting on a hot day.

it says in teh tranny manual that 153 to 195 is normal operating temps so u guys must have ur sender comming off the wrong line, cuz i tested to make sure i had it on the out line and my car runs around 180 and when i get on it bumps to 215 quite easily if i remember correctly 250 starts tranny damage. you guages must have ur sender tapped into the line after the cooler cuz damn its runnin cool

In the summer I get temps around 150 degrees, and when it's colder out, it doesn't move much at all. That tranny cooler really does the job. Right now my tranny filter is on the battery tray next to the engine. When I get the turbo all hooked up, I'm gonna relocate it behind the front bumper where a smic would go. That should help a little more, but in the winter I might need to wrap it with something.
