1815, Problem with trans

I'm having a problem with my trans. I was involved in an accident and my whole front end kind of moved about 2 inches. Well I got the body fixed and when I picked up my car the speedometer did not work. I took it to my mechanic and it was the speed sensor. He replaced it and it was working fine. A few days later my transmission does this wierd shift and will not go past second gear I can go about 35 and my rpms are at 4000. Talked to my mechanic and he said there was another sensor that Mitsubishi recomended I have replaced when he did the speed sensor but he did not because it was not broken. So I got that and also had the fluid flushed, I made sure that it was ATF+3 that was being put in. Took it home, a few days later same thing. I look up and some people say it might be the soleniod pack. So I have that replaced, but it still happens. The strange thing is that if I shut down the car and turn it back on, my trans shifts fine. It seems that it's electrical but I don't know what else it could be. Do you think it could be mechianical?? Has anyone had this problem?? I'm about ready to throw it in the river and have the insurance deal with it :) .

I have no idea what could be wrong with your tranny, but if you end up needing a new one I have one sitting in my garage with 28,000 miles on it. I'll sell it to you cheaper than it will cost to fix yours probably. 200 bones. Has torque converter and all.

I have a 96 GS, will your trans fit? If so what state are you located. You can email me the info to varela_co@yahoo.com if you don't want to post it here.

Thanks,
Alex

I tried e mailing you but my computer was giving me some stupid message, so I dont know if it went through. Anyway I live near charlotte nc. The tranny should fit. I blew a 96 motor and bought a 98 that had an auto tranny. I put my 96 manual tranny on the 98 motor so it should work the other way around. My e mail is wadd7877@bellsouth.net

Your tranny is going into "limp home" mode it sounds like. Take it to a tranny specialist and see if they can run a scan for codes, rather than have a mechanic take your money over and over for what he "thinks" it is, let a computer pin point what it is. Have your EATX relay checked out too, it is on the firewall, should be furthest to the right/on the drivers side.

Get a scan run and see what comes up.

Whatever it is, you shouldn't be paing for it. It's a problem caused bythe accident, insurance should be footing the bill here.

And off to the proper section...
