1348, finally got my tranny cooler-pics inside!!!
Posted by jsupetran, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM

there you have it. it is a haydens tranny cooler. it is 21 a macko sumthin got com cause autozone did have one in stock. total was 27. i test drove it for two min and felt good but i will see tomorrow when i do some freeway pulls. install was very easy, took about 3 hrs cause i was doing some other body work. now i know i can do it in 30 min cause i know where everything goes. YES IT IS OFF a wee bit but it doesn't matter since i will be putting in a black mesh grill.

edit: btw, on another tranny post, corbin said something about using the stock tranny cooler along with the auxilary cooler, well he's right. in the haydens direction, they recomment doing just that. thats what i did too.

Yeah you should use the stock cooler unless the stock cooler is no longer functioning. B&M recommends the same thing on their coolers.

I didnt use the stock cooler on mine. The shop that was doing my rebuild went ahead and threw one in because I guess they came to the conclusion that my stock cooler wasnt functioning properly. Im thinking of buying a 6 pass and mounting it where other guy did. I dont like where mine is.

I was told the stock line can collapse under extreme heat. So thats why the shop did mine that way. i really wish they woulda mounted it like Jsupetrans. I really like that. Id only be afraid of rocks and hamsters hitting it.

heres my question if say you were to put something else thats big and cools stuff i.e. an FMOC or FMIC how would the tranny cooler effect the placement of that sort of thing?

I think its soul controller who mounted his cooler behind his FMIC. Hes got a pic of it in one of these threads somewhere. Has it mounted where mine is on the radiator.

Joe: HAWAII! (or however you spell it.)

9D9: The hardest part is sticking the plastic mounting spikes through your condinsor and radiator. I went through both, cause I'm always afraid something is gonna fall apart when I'm far from home.

SO BASICALLY YOU CAN JUST MOUNT ANOTHER STOCK COOLER AND THE SAME EFFECTS WILL BE HAD

huh? The stock cooling line is one line going across the bottom of the radiator...

Dude! Buy one of these and mount it to the front of your A/C condinsor and hook up the lines and call it a night. This is some simple shit folks. It can be done in 15-20 minutes. It even comes with instructions. :thumbsup

Where all can I get these (without ordering) and how many passes is that 4 or 6?
1461, RE: finally got my tranny cooler-pics inside!!!
Posted by Dirty, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
You can get one at an autoparts store. There are no passes, or at least it's the kind your thinking of. I this this form is better for the tranny fluid cooling and the "pass" coolers are better for oil and fuel. The pass coolers have a pretty fast flow rate and you have some high fuel and oil pressures that would require more flow. This is just my opinion, but I like this form better for tranny cooling.

when I do mine can I just put it behind the grill to the right of the drivers side fog lamp. Cause this is what I was thinking of doing that way its away from the radiator heat and doesnt cause any more are restiction. I also was thinking is would get more cold air from being farther away from the engine. Good or Bad idea?

Since air doesnt flow in the opposite direction of the cars movement, id say you'd be ok mounting the cooler in front of the CONDENSOR. The radiator is not touching the cooler if you mount it up front.

joseph

PS - are the lines up front that kinda look like a race track oil cooling lines? and if so...i wanna see how easy/hard it'd be to hook up a cooler myself. Like where do those lines go?
