i really like the a/t, not that i wouldnt mind the manual, but ive enjoyed modding it, and seeing the results. the shift kit and final drive really closes the gap between the a/t and m/t, and with a torque converter i think would more than make up the difference. out of the hole is really our only hold up...

i know dougie2 has a modded tranny, and pulls awesome times (hopefully 12's this summer).

im thinking of a high stall torque converter and lsd, and maybe a tranny overhaul when i do my engine rebuild. its either that or a 5 speed swap...

i guess i dont really know the point of this post.

what do you guys think?

I say build up the AT and teach those 5speed boys what a modded AT can do.

What kind of times are you pulling in the 1/4?

Imo it really matters. My first time I only pulled a 17.2 and was pretty embarassed that the civic/integra kids from my school were pulling mid to low 16's. However, it was my first time and I know I could've done better had I done a few other things. I totalled my car and just got it back all fixxed so I'll know soon enough.

I also saw a turbo a/t 2gnt a week or so ago only pull a best of 15.8 out of about 4 runs. I'm not sure if he had any tranny mods but thats kind of embarassing imo considering I watched VX100 pull a mid/low 15 in his NA car on opening night at the dragway where the conditions were actually much worse. Btw, VX100 sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi, but there were like 500 people there :P

I mean, I've toasted a few m/t in my town and embarassed them quite badly for knocking my auto but if getting a m/t swap will make me a full second faster (that would be 16.2 currently), then I don't see why not. Especially since its about $500. Thats about the cost of an exhaust right there and I gaurantee an exhaust wont make you a full second faster.

So, if you're pulling a mid to high 14 in your turbo car then I say more power to the auto. But if you're not, then you'll get that w/ a m/t probaly.

i havent run at the track since i really started modding.

when i first got the car, my 1st time i pulled an 18.5 second 1/4! thats horrible! it was on heavy 17's, stereo on, full of gas, 100 lbs of stereo in the trunk, and i didnt know what i was doing. my only mods at the time were a greddy cat back and aem cai.

now im with , stage II, test pipe, cat back, plugs/wires, final drive, shift kit, tranny cooler, tq lockup switch, some weight reduction, ES motor mount inserts, and 57mm bored TB, thats about all i can think of right now...



im shooting for 4 seconds off that this summer @ 8 psi, but well see. there are a few heavily modded a604s around, but they seem to be few and far between. im anxious to see what kind of times i pull.

to each his own though, im torn between the auto and 5 speed.

I agree that modded a604's are few and far between. It might be cool to keep it for the uniqueness factor :)

Do all of that. Converter(3000-3200 stall), lsd, shift kit, cooler, lockup switch or non-lockup converter, upgraded solenoid packs, cluthes, and some good brakes and that little puppy will come alive. I know that's a lot of money but it IS worth it.

You know my opinion on this one. For real though, if you'll looking for a good street car you should probably do the 5-speed swap. The built atx stuff is fun for drag cars. My car is a strip car only so I don't worry about shit breaking too much.

yea, i have mixed feelings, because my car is a daily driver. so i dont know if that high of a stall would be daily drivable hehe.

i did see you inquiring about the 5 speed swap sale in the sale forums tho doug... hehe, made me nervous that you were going to swap!
