108, another tranny bites the dust
Posted by ghostshellx, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
i just found out that my front pump(not the seal) on my tranny is shot. this is the third tranny that i went through since december, i think i might have to do the the 5sp swap, or brake down and make a "built" tranny, but it goes back to the dealership on monday. its a lose, lose situation.

I'm there with you man! Suck that your whole pump went out, I just had a seal blow out. Is your car not catching gear like mine was?

Good luck!

PS - course now the shop is telling me I have another problem...$600 worth of sensors to be replaced...yay....with 400 in labor!

i can grab only part of first if i keep it about 1000 rpms, if i'm lucky. I'm getting tired of my tranny crapping out on me. this tranny didn't even have 2000 miles on it. i'm seriously thinking about doing a 5sp swap, to see if i don't have to buy any more trannys, but i still have 4000 mi's on my warrenty:-) hopefully i can talk the dealership in to do this for me.

Hell yea man, if it has a warranty take advantage of that. I was 3k miles from mine being covered under an extended warranty. By chance...did your transmission shift really funky at all, like a confused shift?

For example : on interstate - if you slam the gas while going about 70 or so it would downshift then bobble at 5 or 6k rpms? Kinda like it was confused because of the pressure loss in the pump malfunction. I cant wait to get my car back to see if this seal was going out or just blew out. :)

no not really, it did rev up real high during downshifts, after leaving gregs(992gnt) house, i raced a crapmaro on the expressway and it hesitated and shifted funny at about 100 mph (at 7000 rpms) then it started to whin so i limped it home and checked it out. took it to my friends dads shop and they said i blew another tranny. so i have an appointment on monday for them to start the teardown and the search for a new tranny

btw i'm out another $95 for the final drive gear mod

I meant before the blow out. But yea when the seal went out on mine I had to rev the engine up a lil bit to even get into any gear. Wasnt pretty. Im gunna post any changes when I finally get my car back.

So you have to get a completely new transmission cause your pump went?:wary thats weird

it cost so much more to buy the pump and put it in, plus i had premature wear on my 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear do to the fact the fluid didn't have enough pressure and major gear slippage.

It would be pretty obvious if I damaged anything internally wouldnt it? Slipping and such right?

ARD has TWO a604 automatics for sale, in good shape. Shipping might get you, but they're both good units. If you want it built, Joe (ARD's trans specialist) is an exprt with the a604 and can do anything you want with it.

my car went to get another tranny put in this week, when i get it back i might sell it, or trade in in on another eclipse. I'm just sick and tired off killing trannies in my car.

Damn man, you oughta figure out what's causing this crap to happen rather than selling it!:) The mechanic I took my car too when I blew out the differential pin said it was from "getting on it". WTF -- cars should be made to "get on it" and not break. ghey oh well.

Good luck!

I ordered my new transmission today. It has 22,000 miles on it and I got a deal for $525.00. So hopefully this weekend it'll be in. Just hope this doesnt happen again, or if it does decide to happen it happens within the warranty (90 days).:)
