83419, WTB: HRC or Star 420a Turbo Kit Posted by RoughRider01, Nov-17-05 05:27 AM
Just like what the title says, Im looking for a used or slightly used HRC or Star Turbo kit for my 99 GS. The kit doesnt have to be 100% complete or anything just would like it sortve close to it. Just got the car about a week ago and have been reading non-stop about turbos and would like to turbo my car while its sitting in the garage over the winter.
Thanks, Steve

I live in the UP of michigan. The snow has already started to fall so the car will be parked in my garage for a handful of months. I would like to have a turbo by spring.
Youll be getting a PM shortly.

Yes, I know but for my first turbo install id rather just start with an almost complete kit. Piecing together a kit isnt out of the question tho.

Piecing a kit together is half the fun, and you end up with something unique, which is nice. But the Star kit is nice, if you have any mechanical knowledge at all it is no harder then the HRC kit to install.

Correct. I wish I would have never went with the star kit personally though. I ended upgrading everythign so far except for the exhaust manifold! I pretty much wasted my money on it....
IMO, Piecing together a kit is the best, or just go with a hahn kit.

Im going to school for auto so im not worried about wrenching on the car. Installing a turbo will be a new thing tho, you dont learn to much about turbos in class. My eyes have been bloodshot for the last week reading things on here. If I can find a complete kit for a decent price ill go for it, if not Ill just gathers peices.

If you gather pieces, the look for a Hahn manifold. You can pick them up super-cheap (mine was $50) and they are flanged for a T3 turbo so you could either use a Hahn turbo (which will fit with an internal gate) or a genuine Garrett (with a T3/T4, getting the internal gate to fit is a bitch). Turbo is easy to hook up as well, run the oil feed from the back of the engine where the oil pressure sensor sender is, take off your oil pan and get a bung welded in (no smaller then -10AN), ... I could write a novel on it. Either search, or PM me with questions.
