44050, 420a engine Posted by Kbsride, May-21-04 08:20 AM
I am looking for a running 420a with less than 75000 miles on it. My 1998 Eclipse RS took a dump and my engine is done for. Please reply asap cuz I need to find one quick. Thanks....Kyle

you should get a crate engine imo.

I've got a 420a (block, crank, rods, pistons, etc) out of a neon that is pretty much fine (63k miles I think), but I would replace the rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump while it's out. Let me know if you're interested.
EDIT I just saw you're in Illinois, I'm in Houston, so you can't just 'drop by' to get it, too bad. I'd just give it to you to get it out of my way.

Cougar,
Are you serious about your Neon motor? If so I'm not too far from you and would like know more. What year car is it from? If memory serves there are some differences between early and late blocks(?)
I have a '96 Talon that has a serious rod knock so this could really help...
Feel free to e-mail me directly.
Thanks,
///Mike :-)
(Apologies for the hijack, BTW)

on the bottom end the only difference in 95 420a neon engined is the emission ports on the front side of block and the oil pan. emission ports can be plugged up and it can be used on our cars. the 96 + were the same.

I've got it sitting here. I tripped over the head the other day and threw it in the dumpster. The motor's here, if you want to come by and grab it, you can, I think I've also got a box with the (neon) intake, injectors, TB, coil pack. However, I turned it over and noticed one piston stopped a little short, I pulled the pan and it does have one bent rod. The motor came out of a flipped car, I'm sure they cranked on it with oil in the cylinder. It ran fine, I heard it run before they pulled it out of the car I know everything else is fine. I'm sure you could pick up one used rod pretty cheap if you want the motor.
Yes, it is the early model with those ports, but as he said, they can be plugged.

Or I could just hang onto it, build it, then find a car to put it in. hmmmm, I just might do that if he doesn't say anything.
