9193, Socal - Take Aftermarket Parts off my car day...
Posted by eclipse804, Aug-31-03 10:53 AM
Hey all, just wondering if any of you in socal would be willing to help me take some stuff off of my car. Mainly, I need to do these things:

-take off Hotshot header and put back stock exhaust manifold
-take off Magnaflow muffler with piping up to flange, and bolt on stock muffler
-take off AEM CAI and put back stock intake (I don't even know how the stock intake box is supposed to go on because I didn't take if off myself)
-take off AFX UDP (maybe - only if have time and still thinking about whether I should take it off)

Also, does anyone have a stock heat shield for the exhaust manifold they'd sell me? I also need a stock UDP if I take off the AFX. I wanna do this all in one day, but I'm not sure if I have all the tools needed. So if anyone has all the tools necessary (I have a jack and jack stands, and a torque wrench, but not much else), I could come to your place or you could come to mine. I'll order some pizza and we could work on it. Maybe others have things they need to fix on their cars too. I need to do this asap on a weekday, so I know it may be hard for most of you to make it. Either one day this coming week or the following. Let me know...thanks.

Hey Marcus, you still in Riverside right now?

I'd be willing to help.

Yeah I'm in Riverside or SGV most of the time. If someone has the tools, I'd be happy to go to your place. I don't think it would really take too long to do all this.

the exhaust is easy, ive done it twice now. just spray the bolts down in WD-40. U could probably come to my house if its not too far for you.

Thanks James. My car is actually near City of Industry and hasn't been driven for a couple of months. The battery is dead too. I think the main part I need help with is the header. I need a stock heat shield and also have no idea how to put back the stock header (well I have a general clue but not sure what tools I need and if I have them).

I can give you a hand too... just come by my place any night after 7pm. I'm in Norwalk, so only a couple miles from Industry. Let me know if you need me to come out and give you a jump or charge the battery or something.

I have the lower heat shield, but Mike is borrowing the upper heat shield right now... maybe I can get it back if you can't find another one.

In near him^ so I can help too, everything but the udp is a simple bolt on and bolt off kind of thing.

Hey Dan, is there a place we could work on my car at where you are? It's probably easiest if I go to your place since you have a lot of tools. I think the part I need is the upper heat shield because the shop bent it all up when trying to get my stock exhaust manifold (where it bolts to the engine) off. Let me know when would be a good time for you. I'll be free this Wednesday night, or next week either Monday or Tuesday night. Thanks a lot...

OT - but Marcus, how much would it be to get my fiberglass sideskirts painted and installed? I remember you saying you had the hook-ups with that kind of stuff. They are brand new too so will they have to be fitted? I know nothing about body work.

Hey James, assuming that there is no major modifications needed, it would be 250 painted and installed. Let me know if you're interested. You can find cheaper places for around 200 painted and installed but check out the quality of the work. Some places charge as much as 350.

yo! i would help if i wasnt so busy wit school right now. oh and marcus, i asked a question on paint jobs in the interior/ext.. section, i hear you know about paint jobs and stuff, just wanted to ask you if you know of a good shop around socal that dsnt overcharge? as you have seen my car needs a paint job bad!
9294, RE: Socal - Take Aftermarket Parts off my car day...
Posted by Weezle745, Sep-02-03 09:22 PM
Marcus, that sounds like a good price, i think ill go with that.

oh and there are two tiny rice-grain sized chips in the skirts, would they fix that? or would i have to bondo it before hand?

Just wondering tho, how much for just paint?
9295, RE: Socal - Take Aftermarket Parts off my car day...
Posted by eclipse804, Sep-02-03 10:20 PM
Hey James, yes they will fix the small chips. You can point them out if it's hard to notice. For just paint, 200 bucks. You'd have to install it yourself. I would suggest installing it first to make sure it fits well. If it doesn't, it could cost up to 50 bucks extra to cut and redo the fiberglass. A lot of skirts don't fit well, but putting them on is the only way to know for sure.

since this post turn into sideskirt questions for Marcus, ;) ...

My coworker ended up getting some new skirts for his 2gnt - and they fit like crap. major gappage everywhere. should he fiberglass that or bondo it? I'm telling him to give you a call but he wants to know a price. you say $50 to fiberglass/repair it on top of the install price?

Hmm if it's major gaps everywhere, how bad is it exactly? Usually a side skirt might be too long, or too short, and it requires some fiberglass work. That's what I estimated at $50. There are extreme cases where it's better to sell the skirt and get better fitting ones than work on it. I remember an eclipse that had the drift side skirts (it took an entire day of work to modify that skirt to fit properly). That would cost more than $50. Are the skirts already installed? If so, he could bring it down for a better estimate.

from what I see, it's not really an issue of being too long or short (in terms of longitudinally), but there is a huge gap between the skirt and the interior when you open the car door.

Hey, If you are going to take off your afx UDP, I want it. I'll get mine off if i can without destroying it and we can make a deal. hit me up on email.
9336, RE: Socal - Take Aftermarket Parts off my car day...
Posted by eclipse804, Sep-03-03 07:03 PM
Ez, I know what you mean, and I'm guessing between 50 to 100 extra to fix that. I can't say for sure til they see it, but I would hope that it would be 75 or under to modify it. Depending on how bad the gap is, it also might not be worth it to fix it. The problem with that area is that there is very little clearance between the bottom of the door and the skirt. As you extend the skirt by adding fiberglass, it will end up being thicker to stay strong. But that may lead to more rubbing when you close the door. I would .stop by the shop when you're in the area or have free time and get a better opinion. I could also check it out and let you know what I think.

420AYE, I'll let you know if I'm gonna be taking off the AFX. I'm leaning against it though because it will take longer...but I'll let you know.

marcus, is 250 normal price or a discount?

Because if its a discount, I will drive out to LA (Im guessing thats where the shop is at) very soon to get this done. Otherwise Ill try and find a place closer to home. Thanks a lot for all your help with this. BTW what would be the soonest I could get this done? and how long would i have to leave my car off?
9365, RE: Socal - Take Aftermarket Parts off my car day...
Posted by eclipse804, Sep-04-03 10:23 PM
420AYE, I would say just get it off ebay. I forgot that sometimes people damage it taking it off the car, so I'd rather not risk it. Sorry.

James, the shop is in El Monte, in the San Gabriel Valley. Feel free to look around closer to home to see if you can find a quality place for the same price. They used to use PPG paint but now they use Sherwin Williams. 250 is a pretty good price. I can try to talk them down a little when you take it in also. Just let me know...I can hook you up anytime you're ready though.

just buy a harmonic damper removal tool. pretty cheap, and yank it off. shouldn't mess it up bad anyhow. as for gettin my stocker off... hmm. maybe i'd just like to buy the afx from you if you pull it? cuz, the one on ebay is "fairly dinged and scratched" as well. i'm just really wanting to do the 120k change so i want one soon. if you change your mind, i have money for you if i don't win on ebay.

Damn, I have a night class till 9pm...:(

Dan has all of the tools at his place. Shouldn't have to worry too much about lacking. Ever since he went air tool crazy, there is no stoping him. Watch how fast he can get the AFX off of your car, and the stock one back on...:P

What is the update on your car Dan? Drop me an email.

So if you still want to take that afx off real quick, apparently dan can do it. I am badly in need of this pulley!!! do a 2gnt member a fav!!!!!!!!!!!!! all you gotta do is sell shiot to me to make my happy! the unorthodox on ebay fell through. some guy is paying like 130 for just a pulley that has been a little fukt up and no belts... i just want the pulley cuz i already bought some gatorback belts for everything.so i don't think i can do my change with shorter belts on the stock pulley!!! pleaaase hit me up on email and see if we can work a deal out. and if i get my stock pulley off i'd gladly give it to you.

420AYE, sorry but I think I want to wait on taking off the AFX UDP until we take off my head. We're planning to take off the head in maybe a month or two, and that invovles taking off all the parts that have to do with the UDP, so it would be much easier to do it then. We don't have that much time to work on Tuesday. For tomorrow night, I think I just want to put the stock exhaust back on, stock exhaust manifold, and stock intake. Sorry about that 420AYE. But if you're willing to wait, I can sell it to you.

I do need a stock upper heat shield for the exhaust manifold, so if anyone has an extra one, please let me know. CV'ed I wasn't sure what you meant about how you might have an extra one?

Can you guys post here and let me know if you're going for sure so I know how much pizza to order? Thanks.

Marcus, just wondering... but how much to get them fitted? w/o paint? they look like they would fit good when i put them up near the car... Thanks,

BTW i found a place that will paint them nearby but not fit them.

Hmm just to drill holes and install it they charge 50 bucks. Then if you need fiberglass or bondo work, the amount extra depends on how much work is required. I would guess anywhere from 75 to 125 (but most likely around 100) fitted.
