1085, SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Hey all, most people I talked to already said that February 16 is a good day, so let's set up a 2gnt SoCal meet for Saturday, February 16, at California Speedway in Fontana. You can run your car for fun (most of us will) or just go to watch. It's $20 to race your car the whole day (we got about 7-8 runs in last time). It's $10 just to watch. Find out what times you run before you do more mods, and you can beat a bunch of civics too (except for me and my 17 sec times hehe).

Let's meet at 6:30 am at the Jack in the Box which is about a mile away from California Speedway:

Jack in the Box
10048 Cherry Ave
Fontana, CA 92335

To get to the Jack in the Box, after you exit the 10 freeway at Cherry Ave, you head North, and once you pass Valley Blvd, the Jack in the Box will be to your left. I suggest checking directions at http://www.mapquest.com. For info on California Speedway, go to http://www.californiaspeedway.com.

The address of California Speedway is:
9300 CHERRY AVENUE
FONTANA CA 92335

**Please try to be at the Jack in the Box by 6:30 so we can all head out on time - I'll try to be there before 6:30 to get some food to eat. We need to get in tech inspection early so that we can get a good spot in the pits. Some people go there as early as 3 am. Post here so we can get a list of who is going...hope you all can make it...btw, racing goes until about 5 pm, but we all left around 3 pm last time since we got tired and already got a lot of runs. That weekend is also a president's holiday weekend, so relax and come out and race.

Alright, second time around racing at the track! I was wondering when it was gonna be so I could already ask for the day off. I wonder if my times will improve or worsen, since I got an UDP but also put in heavier 17's. Hopefully my new super duper mod will make up for it. (2GNT Sticker :P) Good thing I didn't go to HIN. At least I could use that money for the track. O shit, that means I'll have to buy new tires already then huh? 500 bucks down the drain. Will any of u guys bring a tire inflater? I wanted to deflate my tires to the recommended pressure for drag racing. Alright, that's it. Hope to meet u guys there. This would definitely be a good stress remover, with all the stress I'm experiencing right now...:-(

Cool, that's already four of us. Come on everyone, just run at the track for fun, even if you're slow like me hehe...

BTW, any one have needle nose pliers they can bring? Maybe we can install the blue HVAC LED's for those of us ordering from HondaHater21. It will kill some time in between racing...

Oh and Sonicyan, you can just deflate the front to about 20 to 25 lbs, and reinflate them at the nearest gas station...there's one right by the Jack in the Box.

Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
hehe, don't you like us socal people better anyways? jk...well at least at our meet, you get to race your car legally in the quarter mile. But then you'd probably have to head down the night before since we gotta meet up at 6:30 in the morn.

Clay, try to make it and just save up 20 bucks. It's not that much, considering that you will probably only race your car once every year, or some people never even run it. It's an adrenaline rush and fun experience, and gives you more of a rush than street racing...

Ya know, I'd definetely be there but only one problem.. I live in CO, not CA lol. We dont have meets up here very often, and when we do its all the turbo guys, our local DSM group here has a grand total of 3 NTs. ANyway have fun you all... wish I could be there.

I'll be there. First time racing since I went turbo... can't wait!!

Anyone know if California Speedway requires a Helmet, fire extinguisher, or oil catch plate?

Also, isn't this a NASCAR track, which is an oval? Do they have a 1/4 mile or road race track there too or do they just run 1/4's on the oval straightaway?

They set up a track outside of the oval raceway in the back. It's where the parking lot used to be, and then they paved it and made it into a track with barriers and small stands. And no, you don't need a helmet or anything extra unless you run faster than 14.00. Since you're auto, I'm not sure if you're planning to run faster than 14's with the HRC kit? I can't wait to see your car run. BTW, tech is very lenient there. They didn't even look under the hoods of some of the cars...

Could I run if I'm stock (besides muffler)? Anyone else going that is stock/near stock?
1098, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Ya sure, even stock cars run there. It'll be fun. Ian just has intake and exhaust from what I remember, and Clay also, so don't worry...just go...
1099, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by SonicYan, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
C'mon peeps, go just for the fun of it. If I were invited when I was stock, I'd go as well, to compare my times when I was stock and after I got mods. My first time at the track, I only had intake and exhaust and got a 16.3 as my best time. That's ok, at least its better than 17s (no Eclipse804, I'm not referring to ur 17s, I'm referring to what our cars should run stock ;-)). I think I'll even run slower this time because of my heavier wheels. Gotta lose weight before that day then. Swimming class, get to work!!! :-)

And to Fusion, c'mon down. U know Socal is so much better than Norcal. :P Yeah Clay, kinda have a lot of stress ryt now, mostly with school. Too many things at the same time and the pressure. That's why this would be a great stress remover! Oh, and this is actually after Feb 14! So for those who don't have a valentine, this is the time to vent!!! (Dang that !@$!!#% bitch...:P Jk. No real person in particular...)

Most likely I'll be there. I'll probably be a little later then most since my buddy is coming with me and he doesn't get off work till the early morning so I won't be bailing SD till like 6.00-6.30ish. Well see as the event gets closer.
1101, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by Clay, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Oh yeah if ya didn't know im not totally stock. Hence the afx udp, ;-)

Gonna be saving up them 20 dollas, you guys got me all hyped up!
Oh yeah i'm gonna try to bring my buddy and his 92 integra. I wanna show him that my babie can kick him where it hurts.

I'll be there. I'm almost willing to bet money that I'll be the slowest one there too (I dont trust the low end on this rebuilt tranny).
1104, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Hey Anton, don't worry, I think you'll run way faster than palmdale times. We can race against each other since we're both slow autos. That way we don't look as bad hehe.

Oh and Kaiser, or anyone else, if you go, can you bring needle nose pliers? Thanks!

So far, we have 11 people going including a couple of "maybes". Let's try to get even more people out to the track. Be a true racer hehe. We can show them what 2gnt's can do. I think thedawg will be the fastest with his HRC stage 2...

C'mon Jeff, you know u wanna go. Everyone knows SoCal is soooo much better than NorCal. :P And u don't have to worry about anyone being faster than u. We're all just humble NTs (except Dan aka thedawg of course) :-)...
1109, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by DownAzzDSM, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
So what do you think the difference in times would be between Cal Speedway, and Palmdale? Cause I went to palmdale in Dec. and saw Civic SI's running 17's all day. The elevation must be pretty bad up there.
1110, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
At LEAST half a second faster at cali speedway. Most civics run 16's at cali, since it's normal elevation. Palmdale sucks because it's so high and some people run as much as 1 sec slower...

palmdale sucks balls!!

just a couple questions for those of you that have been to fontana before.. my friend is bringing his z28.. he ran a 13.7 at palmdale.. and since then he added headers and a couple other things.. does he need a helmet? im not sure what the restrictions are for 13sec cars or lower.. at palmdale, they require one.. also, what time do they close down that day? just in case i cant get there at 630.. let me know, thanks!
1112, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
If your friends runs 13.99 or faster, then he needs to have a helmet. They let cars in until they're full (hard to tell what time that is since it's a holiday weekend so there might be more people maybe). I would say to be safe, you should get there before 8 if possible. We'll try to save you a spot in the pits so we can all park together (we're gonna need to get a lot of spots next to each other).

Just curious but i sort of have an oil leak underneath my intake manifold. Would that be a problem?
1114, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...

thanks for the info 804.. we should be there before 8am... hoping to be there at 630.. but we'll see how it goes.. and hopefully i get my udp on my car by then.
1115, RE: SoCal Meet - California Speedway - Sat. Feb. 16 - Race your car...
Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
No prob..oh ya Clay, you shouldn't have a problem with a minor oil leak unless it actually drips a lot and they can see it drip? If it's just dried up oil, it's cool as long as it doesn't drip obvious puddles onto the ground.
1116, Bring: License, Registration, Insurance
Posted by eclipse804, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Here are some requirements. If you are under 18, there is special form you need to fill out and have your parents sign.

Also, does anyone have a cooler that they can bring ice in? And anyone happen to have one of those huge canopies so we can have some shade in the pits? If not, it won't be too bad since it's winter time this time.

Basic Technical Requirements
Vehicle must have current vehicle registration, license and a valid proof of insurance (must have all documentation with you at time of registration). NEW FOR 2002 – Cars can be brought into the speedway on Trailers. All vehicles must enter off of Cherry Avenue. The speedway is located at 9300 Cherry Ave., Fontana. Cost - $10 per person to enter the speedway and $10 for a Tech Card to race your vehicle ($20 total).

Under 18: Anyone under 18 years of age must have a parental permission form completed and signed to race. If parent is not present on race day, the form must be notarized and submitted with registration materials. A new form must be completed on each race day. The form does not carry over from race day to race day!

I could bring the cooler again like last time. Extra weight for the car though. :-) Neways, yeah, a canopy or a tent would be good. At least we could use it to mark our personal space and leave things there or just use it while waiting to be called. It is winter but it might still be sunny. Having a black car under the sun doesn't help. Laterz...
