4124, Anyone ever AutoX with an ATX? Posted by Brent Pottle, May-14-04 05:50 AM
Just curious if anyone here has ever auto crossed with an automatic before? I have an RS ATX with cat back, bored Jeep TB, CAI, 17's and Z Rated tires.
I have friends that AutoX and they tell me to go out and it will be a blast, but they all have 5 speeds, is it pointless for me to go with an ATX??? Can I expect to fair OK against others in my performance class?
Thanks!

autox shouldn't be about your car it should about how well you drive and understand your car. But I have a manual 2GNT that I autox'd. But... I did autox my automatic MR2 and it was a blast, haha I had it drifting every corner because the track was kinda gravelly. All I did was shift it into 1 or L and just revved that sucka through the whole track. I think I might have hit the rev limiter like once or twice, you could put it at 2. Your revs will be very high during the whole thing anyway.

old post but anyway... never expect your car to stay in high gear. if you are going through a corner and you anticipate staying in 3rd at around 2500rpm, you will not. you will downshift and get a sudden rush of speed that will probably spin you out.

make sure to buy a tranny cooler, worth the 50 bucks if you want to autox

ATX is perfectly fine on AutoX. Just becareful to avoid getting into 3rd cause it slow you down big time.
