3828, is a turbo worth it??? HURRY Posted by my1997eclipse, Jan-05-04 06:05 AM
hey, i was reading about every post on this site and i didn't really find what i was looking for here is my question. Is a hrc stage 2 worth it will i notice a big diff? hrc says they run a 13.7 with the stage 2 and i have not heard of anyone here running under a 14.5 in the quarter why is that? i am tired of having a slow car and want to make it faster but i don't know if i want to waste my money on somethin that is not going to help out that much please change my mind lay down some of your times with a stage 2 turbo and the bottom end not touched. please give me your 1/8 mile times to that is the only track around me. please change my mind so i don't end up just getting nos. please post your times right down there :thumbsdown

get the turbo. i run 14.5 with it at 7 psi. i am faster then most gs-t's around here. you will bust a nut when you first drive your boosted 420a. enuff said.:thumbsup
*edit* i run a 9.4 1/8 mile

yes its worth it if you are (or become) mechanically inclined to some degree. I think Hahn's numbers are optimistic to say the least but going turbo is like buying a new car. It's completely different and very addicting.

was that 14.5 and 9.4 with street tires or did you have radials? what else was done to your car? i am i good driver at the track and plan on running 9psi at the track. just give me ideas what to get with the turbo like performance things to make me faster i want to beat a z28 camaro. i know it sounds hard but this is a 1994 z28 with a lt1 and this thing is slow as shit he runs a 9.4-9.7 and every year he will run 9.2 but that like never in the 1/8 mile i guess i am just tired of him talkin sh!t. Just give me an idea what to get i got people around here to tune it for me and plenty of money to waste on the rs 5 speeed
p.s. what did you run without the turbo on in the 1/8 mile i was at 10.2-10.3 every time with constant 2.3 60' witch ain't all that bad.Is the hrc gonna make me faster in the 1/8 or will the star kit make me faster?
thanks for your opinions. keep them coming just post your times down there :thumbsdown

it was done with street tires, the cheapest things i could find in fact. i has a 2.2 60' foot. the turbo is my main power. um.. forgot whatelse to say. but, the turbo will definatly make your 1/8 better. dosent matter between star and hahn. both are good.

Our car's stock run about 16-17 second 1/4's. 14's are easy at 7 psi. Your only going to be able to run about 8 psi max on a stock HG and stock bottom end.

k you all got me to get one but what bov do you guys have? i just bought a hks with a 1995-99 mounting flange will that fit in the piping? i also bought another falnge for the bov for a 1st gen eclipse because someone said that it was a 1st gen bov that i was getting with the kit how am i going to mount this bov does anyone have one on there car?
|
3839, RE: is a turbo worth it??? HURRY Posted by Uberingram, Jan-06-04 08:47 AM
sure it will work but the flange wont. all piping comes from either hahn or star or its custom.

First of all, I am going to agree with everyone that it is worth it. But I will say that with the star kit you will get a bigger turbo, which in turn means that you will flow more CFM=More power, and you will have more potential with it. Eventually you will want to build your engine and you will want a big turbo, with my 66 trim t3/t4 I have already pushed 31psi. So therefore I would suggest Star, or build your own kit. Secondly just FYI I ran 11psi with stock everything for over a year.

whoa whoa wait you ran your car stock with that? How the hell was the engine after that? Did you do constant checks to see if you broke anything, hehe just sayin that 11 psi sounds a bit much for a stock engine running for a year. I wanna do it now!!. But i'd rather rebuild my engine first, well just get better after market parts so it last longer.

3879, RE: is a turbo worth it??? HURRY Posted by Therein10, Jan-24-04 12:53 PM
Well everything was fine with the engine when I rebuilt after a year of 10 or 11psi. So I guess you just have to try.

did your star kit fit well ? did you ever race at the track? what did you run if you did. did you have supporting mods? any cars you raced that your proud of.

Check out War Stories (FYI If your proud of your car and Hate Mustangs) And no since I built the engine and had it running right the track has not been open.

instead of taking one persons word on how much boost you can run stock internals, take a look at the archives. You'll see about 7-8 psi. Fact of life. congrats to whats his name for running so much but I wouldnt do that to my car after being here so long and seen what ive seen.

3887, RE: is a turbo worth it??? HURRY Posted by my1997eclipse, Jan-25-04 06:05 AM
yeah well you guys have been alot of help. i have the money now and i don't know witch one to get it keeps going back and forth in my mind. i think star looks nice and has a bigger turbo witch i think will make me run faster at the track and then i think hahn is good but won't get me the same times with stage 2. i don't know what to do i just want a car that is fast at the track and on the street. you guys say star has alot more top end and pulls harder but does that mean hahn don't pull top end at all? 2900 vs 3100 and don't know what the f*ck to do. no one in iowa that i know knows anything about turbos. i swear i am the only person in this town that knows anything about them but who knows i think i will just keep reading on this board and learn.

I'm sorry but if everyone here is only worried about reliability and not taking any risks, than don't even bother to mod your car. The whole point to modding your car is to go faster. And anytime you mod a car the reliability goes down. The faster you want to go, the more risks you take, and the more money you spend. So I guess if you are scared of the money than again, don't even bother with modding your vehicle. Just join all the ricers that run 17's and watch 2Fast 2Furious and put neon lights under your car. GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!!

It doesnt matter which kit you get. You will be thrilled by boost. You will also need to start saving for the rebuild which will follow in the future to make the car more powerful since 7psi won't be enough for you for long...

k, well i will let you guys know how it goes i just got off the phone with hahn and orderded the kit stage 2 by the way. i hope it turns out to be a good turbo and works right. can any off you guys give me advice on somethin you had a hard time doing installing the kit and tell me what it was and how you fixed it. i know it seems kinda out of range but i hope to be running 9.25-9.4 in the 1/8 mile(the only track around here). right now my average is 10.2-10.3 and my fastest of 10.1 with nothin done so far with my slow 5-speed rs.

From what I hear the hardest part of the install is setting up the fuel system, also maybe tapping the oil pan. If I was to install it I would do the fuel system 1 weekend, make sure it's all good. Then to the turbo installation the next. Will probably help with the frustration that way and you won't feel so rushed. Oh and in addition to the hahn kit get an EGT gauge, Apexi turbo timer (has A/F readings), a Missing Link, and a Chill Factory FMU or a Vortech SFMU.
*edit, there are also hahn instructions floating around here somewhere, I would read them at least 5 times through before doing the install. If you can't find them e-mail me and I'll send them to ya.

lol you showed them... but yea what he said!
i have a hahn kit and i like it. the shop that installed it said it was the most complete kit they had seen and they only had to buy 1 or 2 fittings for the oil line...and you can always buy the kit with the s20g or s25g instead of the s16g if you want a bigger turbo

I felt i had to add to this thread...... I started out with NOS... and thought it was a rush.... I put a t3/t4 turbo on my car and I just can't get enough.... It's insanely fast!
