I was wondering how much of an advantage a stick would have over an auto when lauching?

Anyone in here with an Auto have there 1/4 mile times or sheets?

The 5-speed will run about 1 sec. faster ETs.

Depends on the auto. Stock for stock, there's no comparision. Drop in a stage 3 at 15PSI and a 3500 stall, the auto can build boost at the line and make up for that bit of drivetrain loss and gearing. There's a good bit of skill involved as well. A good driver in an auto can out launch a bad driver in a manual.

Usually I would pull the first 5-10 feet and than between 2000-3000 rpms is where the manually would pull. After that it was usually even although I usually beat most of the stock manuals.

sometimes a good auto driver can outlaunch a decent 5 speed driver. It's all in your style and setup/tuning skills.

Whats the best way to launch a stock auto?? Right now I (only did it once actually) put the car in drive, put brake on full and rev it to 2000. Then I let go of my brake and pin the gas pedal...

Any other way??? Rev to 3000?

Actually, the best way Ive found is to tach up to 2 grand before you launch and then slip the clutch just enough to get you to roll. At the same time your also punching it to WOT and fully dumping the clutch at around 3000 RPMs. This gets better acceleration than just dumping in at 3000 RPMs. For first gear wrap it out to 6700 RPMs then quick shift to second. By quickly punching the clutch the right about of RPM drop should leave you at about 3200 to 3500 RPMs. Its important to remember that you should not be yanking as hard on the shifter as your stomping the clutch. Ive not bent the clutch pedal on mine so I think it can handle a little abuse. Then wrap out second gear to around 6500 RPMs...The reason for this is to keep the engine within its power band. Then quick shift to third...and check the rear view for the new celica you just dusted...:D
