2745, Went to the track today

Today we had our 23rd annual Highschool Drags out at Kansas City International Raceway. I'm a little POed cause I only ran a 17 second quarter mile. It was pretty warm today though...The high was 80 degrees. I talked to a drag racer there and he said a reason I may have only ran a 17 was cause I was shifting too late and cause it was so warm. I shifted near readline, should I be shifting around 5500 instead? Oh yea, Im manual with CAI, headers, racing Cat, and catback. I had really good launches both times. First time i went i was pitted against a 98 GS and took him by a car length off the line but my second gear wouldnt shift in the high RPMs so it grinded and he took me. I ran a 17.095 that run, and the second time I was against a Civic. I ran a good run that time, good launch, good shifting but still only ran a 17.090. It was warmer by that time of the day though. Oh yea, I kicked his arse by 3 car lengths.

Weight? i dunno you're 60' and 1/8, nor your trap speed but was you're gas tank close to empty? did u have subwoofers in the back? back seat? tires and jack? and since u were shifting at redline im not sure what happened there, are u powershifting? Or maybe your throttle isn't at WOT? and it was kinda toasty outside.. but its so many factors

now that u know H A Y B!!!

Oh yea and u also have a full cat-back exhaust setup on a NA car which i believe hurts you're low end power. Learn quick grasshoper didn't u use to say that?

something isn't right....i ran a 15.97 with full interior back when i had only a few minor mods more than him when the temp was 86....sounds more like you need a tuneup...

Post the numbers from your time slip, and let us know the condition of your car (how much gas, was there any extra weight int he car, general condition of the engine)

My guess, the launch (as always) needs work, but I can't be sure untl I see the slip.

And, that catback might not help, depends on the size of it.

I had almost an empty tank of gas, it was between the 1/4 full and E mark. I had taken out my subs but left the jack and back seat in. I thought the launch was pretty decent actually. My cat-back is 2.5" all the way back but it actually really helps my top end. Here are my times from my time slip Im on the left:

Left Right
R/T .787 .761
60' 2.603 2.926
330 7.387 7.419
1/8 11.179 (misshiftx( ) 11.073
MPH 65.04 67.09
1000 14.404 14.227
1/4 17.095 16.876
MPH 82.83 84.72

2nd run (i dont have a real time slip for this one, just my #s)

R/T .814
60' 2.569
330 7.286
1/8 11.096
MPH 64.64
1000 14.345
1/4 17.090
MPH 81.24

I have no idea wtf happened on the second run...it seemed that i got slower as i went down the track. Im thinking practice will help but I was expecting to at least run mid 16s.

Yes i did used to say learn quick grasshopper ;) im amazed you remembered. Also, I was talking to my friends gf's dad and he races a Typhoon. He said that temperatures make a huge difference. On a 70 degree day his typhoon runs a 13.5 but since it was around 80 degrees it was running a 14.5 and he said last time they ran it it was 90 and it only ran a 15.
