Go Turbo(but seriously)--> Get an AFX underdrive Pulley (160.00) and lighten your car a bit(Spare tire and such).Anyone else have ideas ?

If you got the stock wheels put them on. 14" are the best.

put on your stock wheels, take out any extra weight (spare, jack, pass seat if you can do without it) and most importantly, out drive him.

Yes, those are good ideas. Especially running the stock wheels.
Also, make sure you have your front tires down a bit in pressure (if you are racing from a stop and not a roll) for more traction onthe launch, say about 24 psi or so. And, run on as little gas as possible (each gallon weighs at least 5 lbs if not a bit more). The neon has the weight advantage, so you need to make sure you have as little in your car as possible.

afx nderdrive pulley is a light weight crank pulley (usually billet aluminum vs. heavy steel used on stock pulley). It is smaller in diameter as well to "underdrive" the accessory belts (power steering, a/c, alternator) this puts a lot less strain on the engine. Typical gains are anywhere from 5-15 HP depending on who you talk to.

hmm, you need to start reading more of the threads on the board :)
But don't worry, we're here to help. the UDP should help add a little more power.

Hey i raced a neon that had the same basic boltons that u are talking about, yea weight helped me win the race. u said u are gonna get a 60mm tb, i dunno if u should go that big maybe 56 at max, unless u are planning to go turbo in the future. Oh and u should port the manifold to match the tb... at least thats what i've been told can n e one else back me up?

I beat my cuz in my stock RS (5 speed). He had a 00' Neon (5 speed) with an intake.
