In my town there are a lot of cars with mods and I'm just wondering if I could beat any of these. Not many of the guys around here have forced induction so they don't know what all a turbo can do. When they ask me if I could beat this or this, I tell them I honestly don't know, because I don't. I'm a Hahn stage 1 (installing S-FMU and missing link next week) and I have a Thermal 3" cat-back.

So...can I beat these...

1. Eclipse GS-T/GSX - I've heard I can handily beat it if driver skill is equal. A boosted N/A Eclipse with high compression and 5 psi is supposedly pretty potent against these from what I've heard. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2. Mustang/Camaro/Firebird - When I had my 3" exhaust only (and no back pressure :rolleyes ) I got beat by 3 cars from a Camaro RS. What can I do to these things now?

3. Mustang GT - I hate these cars with a passion. Funds are low so I might be seeing an intercooler in the near future. But do I need more boost to beat a GT?

4. Civic Si - There's one in town with minor bolt ons. Will this thing pose a threat?

Stock GS-T should be slower then your car unless the driver really knows what he's doin.. but be careful, cuz minor mods will throw everything off. Stock GSX, from stop will get a jump, but from a roll, you might hold a lead.

They're pretty quick. If the driver knows how to launch, he'll probably hold a lead.. if not, he'll peel out all day.

The newer mustang GT's are fast.. the 98's and lowers aren't too bad.

The thing I discovered about SI drivers (at least in my area) is they are all incredible drivers. I am confident I could hold my own against an SI, so with a turbo, you should have no problems.

This is just info from what I know about those cars and what I've read about others who have tried racing them.. i make no claims that I'm in any way correct in my assumptions. :)

- You should beat either of these cars if they are dead stock... if not, you'll have some trouble.

I could beat the hell out of a stock V6 (RS) Camaro when I was dead stock. You should be klling these things. (and by the way, backpressure doesn't make a damn bit of difference in a race)

Leave the new ones alone, you should hang with a pre-98 one if it's unmodded.

If he has a lightweight flywheel and can drive, you're going to lose.

You beat the hell out of one when you were dead stock? Sorry, but I don't really believe you. With rear wheel drive and higher displacement the things are pretty quick. And I'm not sure what you meant about back pressure not mattering in a race. I lost so much low end power it wasn't even funny.

Which RS. The original 93-95 had slow 160hp V6s or something to that effect. 96up RSs had 200hp V6s and ran mid 7 sec 0-60 and mid 15s stock, autos too. I know of no NA 2gnts that can "smoke" a 200hp RS. Beat or run with maybe. Back pressure is not good period. Too big=reduced velocity=no torque. If you maintain exhaust gas velocity with the proper size piping lack of back pressure will not cause you to lose any torque. smallish piping and free flowing muffler tend to work better than large piping and free flowing muffler NA, my personal unproven opinion.

I raced a 96. I don't know about 98Talon. All I know is that I got my ass handed to me. I actually saw the guy the other night with his Camaro and I guess he heard about my turbo and asked if I installed it. When I told him I had, he refused to race me.

yeah, in all honesty, those things are a pain to get off the line. The best method I've found is to hold it around 4K and slip the clutch fairly aggressively. They're not super torqey so it's easy to keep it from spinning, and that way, as soon as you catch traction, you have vtec on hand.

oh, and I don't care if you beleive me or not, my kills are for real. Oh, and of course you lost low end, but tell me, how much low end do you use in a drag race other than the first 2 seconds of it? Exactly.

Those first 2 seconds are pretty crucial though. He's RWD and I have no low end torque and FWD. He pulled the first few car lengths on me at the beginning of the race. It was pretty evenly paced since that.

well, it's all about how you launch too. Don't "dump" the clutch and let the tires catch and bog your motor. I personally hold my rpms around 4000 - 4500 and slip the clutch while feathering the throttle until I have traction, then it's all go. This way, I don't bog down, and I"m in my powerband almost immidiately.
