2061, First time at the track results

Well finally got to run at a track on sunday...I'm pissed at myself. with a star kit at 8-9 psi (depending on the pressure drop) I managed to hit a 15.9 and a 16.1. As best I can tell it must be my shifting. On the 15.9 I got a real good launch with a 2.68 60' time. at the 1/8th I was at 10.5 and ran through the trap with a 15.9 at 90.70mph.
On the 16.1 run I had a bad launch with wheel spin and hop, wich caused me to forget to concentrate on my shifting. My 60' went up to a 2.8 my 1/8th went to 10.7 and I finshed with a 16.1@91.14mph. This was my first time at the track but this thing should be in the 14's I guess I just need more practice. But I was hoping someone may be able to look at this info and see if there is anything else that needs to be improved. The car is running rich too if that helps, my o2's are like .95-.96 when they should be between .93-.94. So I'm going to work on the shifting first any other ideas? Also I was running on a pro tree. Do you guy's think this is decent for a first timer on street tires?

i don't have a turbo or a manual tranny but i have read that a lot of non-turbo people are able to run in the 15's so I would think you need to get tunned badly or shift better. Also, a 2.6 60ft is not a good time, you need to get down to 2.2 and that will drop the 1/4 times alot. I would say (even running rich) that your problem is the way you shift. Since your turbo, you should be running low 15's or high 14's. Just practice, and the times will drop slowly.

werk on your launch... a 2.3 60footer netted me my 15.9, and a 3.1 60footer got me an 18.1 ;-)

shoot for low 2sec, or sub 2sec 60foot times... your 1/4mile time will drop considerably. if i were u, i wouldnt go WOT in first gear to reduce wheel spin, and get the motor mount inserts if u dont have them already for wheel hop...

other than that, the tmies are somewhat respectable, but like u said, you "should" be in the 14s.... time to tune and practice that launch

yea....i had a 2.4 60ft time and still pulled a 15.84 out of it with my N/T...even with a 2.6 you should still be hitting mid 15's....it deffinatly sounds like you need some tuning..

You need practice far more than tuning.

You need to get your 60' into the 2.1-2.3 range for any respectable times. To get more than that you will need slicks or get damn lucky. Work on your shifting as well to keep the turbo spooled up. I am sure it could run a 14 with your current setup once you learn to drive it better. Your mph already translates to a mid 15 and would be much higher if you shifted well.

Yes, your first priority should be getting your 60' time down by practicing that launch.

a 2.6 60' time is quite bad, to be honest with you.

Remember, spinning tires is bad. Keep the wheel spin down to a minimum (or none at all) and you'll be fine. It comes with practice.

>Remember, spinning tires is bad.

I've pulled my best 60's by spinning all through first. low 2.2's, low 2.3's, on street tires. The key is to not bog it when you get traction, and not to wheelhop it coming out of the whole. if you can keep them spinning without bogging it or having it wheelhop so hard it turns your wipers on, you'll get good 60' times (at least I do. I can't get out of the hole without spinning tire.)
