1808, when do you shift? Posted by 2hot97GS, Aug-29-02 07:00 AM
ive heard a lot of different oppinions on when people shift when they race, some people shift a litle in the red, at the red, or when they think the car peaks in a gear... whats the best.. i would assume at peak but.. what rpm do the gears peak at?

if you are stock I'd shift a little before redline (about 300 rpms or so)
if you have some mods which allow the car to breathe better, then shifting at redline would be more useful because the engine's top end isn't being chocked down so much anymore. I think you can feel the difference after just a CAI and exhaust.

I shift every gear at 7200 RPM when racing.

...which would be the rev limiter, so make sure you don't hit it or you won't be winning too many races! :) I'd say between 7000RPM and 7100RPM just to be safe. And practice too.

7200 is the rev limiter? I swear mine doesn't kick in until 7400. hmmm....

I've shifted at 7,404 before. After the run I went back and check my S-AFC's memory and that was my top shift....probably isn't efficient, but it happened...

Dude, that is a beautiful car you have. I love that color. I also love how you dont have a wild body kit or any of that other ricy crap. Just smooth...very nice. :)

Today at the track I hit the fuel cutoff at somewhere between 7400 and 7500.
