1399, My results Posted by UNSpooled95GS, Jun-16-02 09:04 PM
I took my Eclipse to the track for the first time on Saturday. Here are my times.
1st run R/T-.774 60'-2.641 330-7.142 1/8-10.387@66.43mph. 1000-14.010 1/4-16.669@85.95mph.
2nd run R/T-.799 60'-2.579 330-7.111 1/8-10.807@66.57mph. 1000-14.010 1/4-16.689@82.46mph.
3rd run R/T-1.152 60'-2.585 330'-7.049 1/8-10.712@68.15mph. 1000 13.886 1/416.539@83.14mph.
4th run R/T -.562 60'-2.712 330-7.150 1/8-10.812@68.19mp 1000 13.983 1/4 16.632@83.34mph.
5th run------Changed plugs, removd exhaust silencer and took out passenger seat,sub-box,spare tire and jack, shifted at 7200 instead of 7000.tire pressure @34psi.
R/T- .767 60'-2.411 330'-6.915 1/8-10.390@69mph. 1000-13.115 1/4-16.210@86.17mph
The stuff I did really seemed to help.Plus I got a good launch.but then I got eliminated by an automatic Olds Cutlass beacause I set my dial-in at 16.48 and broke out.Are these times pretty respectable for a lightly modded GS?

16.210 is a good time for light mods, but what exactly do you have done?
You posted that for your best run you took all the stuff out that wasn't doing you any good in a drag race (which always helps) you took your exhaust silencer off (do you mean you removed your muffler?) put in new plugs (that probably didn't make a difference unles your old ones were worn) and you got a good launch.
A 2.4 60' time is MUCH better than a 2.6 and that alone was probably most of your improvement. That's why the driver is the most important variable in a drag race.

Yeah my plugs were pretty bad.The ceramic insulator thing had turned brown and they were just plain ugly.Plus they were autolites, which suck.As far as performance mods, i have a PCP CAI, accel wires, and a custom OBX exhuast.I have stock 97 GST rims also and am lowered on Sprint springs. My muffler came with a removeable silencer that unbolts to let flow through or not, So i took that out.

With a CAI and exhaust, you have run a good time, but with more practice launching (and getting that 60' time down) I'm sure you could be a tenth if not two tenths faster.

Those are really good times for your car. Hopefully, we'll get to meet at the NHRA Import Nationals at Woodburn in August. Look for the black 97 GS with the NWDSM sticker on the back. Hopefully, I'll have the slicks on as well.
